So I totally thought I posted these yesterday but I guess I forgot lol. Anyways here are the girls so far. Going to say like Day 10. I really like the floraflex stuff. Very cool idea.
Well I believe this is day 30ish. The girls are starting to bud up a little. It seems like the lights is decent for veg. I had the tips about 6” from the lights with no burn which leads me to believe that there is no where near as much light output as a 600w hps. Also the node spacing is pretty far apart. I usually get more vertical growth and girth with the hps at this time in the grow. Really hoping that the light performs well in full flower or I might have to switch back. A few of the plants were smaller so the bigger ones I tied down and they popped back towards the light within a few hours. Anyways here are some pics.
@BigSm0 would it be harmful to disconnect 2 of the cobs and run 3 off each of the 2 hlg185s. It would take the cons from 45 watts to about 60 each. The 2 in the back aren’t really lighting much.

If it’s a hlg-185-48 then you could. Probably run a little hotter on each heatsink but that all depends on your space now. If they run cool you should be ok, if they run warmer you may need to add a fan to the space. Efficiency will go down slightly but It is impossible to see a difference.
I have 120 cob watts, 20watt cobs going for a few months on 1/8” aluminum in another space without a heatsink at all. People said it was impossible 2 years ago.
Yea the heat sinks are cold. Like not even a little warm. I have good circulation around them and my fans blow over/through the lights. I might look into it. I also might get 1 more cob and 1 more driver and run 3 off each one and then row them in 3s with 8-9” spacing. I think I’m losing some light because I don’t have reflectors.
Well one of the girls got stem rot and the fan broke the trunk off and she died. But other than that everything is going decent. Still a little more stretchy and not as full as usual. I’m hoping the light pans out.
The girls aren’t using as much water as they should I feel. Although since we have been having this colder weather my room has been colder than normal and some of the girls are starting to purple up now. There isn’t much bud growth but it’s coming on.
Today is day 40ish. I’m not really 100% when they started but I can tell they aren’t close to finishing. I should be able to get some massive buds in the next 5-7 weeks. Usually this is a 70 day strain with some being cut early and some being cut late. Usually -5/+10
Took these pics the other day. They are starting to flower up nicely. I still feel like they are behind the hps/mh but we will see closer to harvest. The bottom one is a jock horror photo under my mars led. Going to cut clones near the end of this run and try the cob light with shorter plants.
The buds are starting to tighten up and get bigger. The cobs don’t seem to penetrate as deep as a mh but they run much cooler and quieter. I think that watt for watt they would be about equal of a typical hid lamp if you ran about 50w per cob. I think right now I’m at 370ish watts and it is performing better than a 400 but less than a 600. Could be me with something new and first time but after this run I’m going to do side by side sog run of cob vs hid.
Anyways today is Day 48 I’m gonna call it. Probably about 30 more days to go. I got the jock horror under the hid still and it’s loving the light and room!! It is 29” away from the light in a decent bucket and no kidding this thing is 3” tall and the fan leave are hanging out almost over the edge of the bucket!! It’s like 12” wide lol. Not sure if it’s supposed to be short like that but it has side shoots that are stuck under the big fan leaves. I’ll get some pics tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to pull clones off it enough to fill the tables. We will see.
These pics were from a few days ago. They are still starting to bud up nicely. The purple seem more prominent under the COB then the hid. Not sure if it’s because it runs cooler or what. I think that running a split with redder cobs would help in flowering more. 3500k seems a little high to me. Maybe I’ll pick up a few more set or something to give it a little more red. The dwc bucket is the photo jock horror. I went ahead and topped it hopefully to pull out some height.
