I started one seed not an auto. One of the Afghan strainds I believe. I have six 26 watt cfls in x2 storage bin setup lined with foil. I started her on the 7th of Feb by putting the seed directly in a 1 pint jiffy pot filled with jiffy seedstarter. On the ninth of Feb she arose from mix and now is about 1 inch tall. I have the cfls about 8 inches above the pot. I'm running the lights 24/0 right now the temp is a steady 82-84 degrees.

Any idea when I should place pot into my final 3 gallon pot. I'm also concerned with stretching, is 8 inches to far for the lights to be?

You could give it a week or 2 in its 1 pint pot before moving it to its final home. Are you tier transplanting? I use t5 lighting and for the first few days i keep the light 8-10" above the little ones and then gradually move it down to within 2" of the plant tops. I'm sure one of the experienced guys will stop in and give you the lowdown,i'm new to this game also and the people here have helped me immensely.I just built one of the rubbermaid growboxes with 6 26w cfls,6" duct exhaust and 6" passive intake, running some temp tests now before i pop a bluewidow in there. My temps run 80-82f but my humidity is 30%,how is the humidity level in your box? Hang in there and good luck!

I would suggest you wait till your seedling has at least 3 sets of true leaves before transplanting. Transplanting can be stressful to seedlings so if it's a little bigger first it will fare better. Fullauto gave you good advice on the light.

How big is your grow box? Reason I ask is you are growing a photo strain and they can get quite big. You will probably need to change your light cycle to 12/12 pretty quickly. Remember, depending on the strain, a photo plant can double or triple in size after it's switched to 12/12. Also, ditch the foil. Foil doesn't reflect light evenly and can create hot spots. Use something like reflective mylar or paint the inside white.

I will buy new storage bins tommorow and paint them white. I was planning on building a bigger box before I put her in the bigger pot. Any idea of what size box I should build. And do you think the six 26 watt cfls are sufficiant for the entire vegg stage. Thanks for the help.

Seems like you might grow out of your rubbermaid box's... Have you looked into getting a tent? I've got a great tent that I only spent $90 on, it's 3'x1.7'x5'. Great value and easier to control your climate in my opinion. By the time you spend money on totes and paint and all the other things you'll need you could have a nice tent.
Here's mine I ordered through amazon but this is the one I have http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/growtents/grow-tent-3x1-7x5-lighthouse-grow-tent.html
Good luck, you're in the right place. Everyone is super cool here and very helpful.

Unless your completely sold on building your own, I'd also suggest getting a tent. A 2' x 2' one would be good for 1 big photo plant or two small ones. Or 3-4 autos.

I built my box out of 2 35 gallon totes,it's 35" tall 18" wide and 30" long. Don't forget to figure in height of your pot, mine are 3 gallon smartpots which are 8" tall which leaves roughly 27" from top of pot to touching the lights which isn't alot if you have a photo plant in there.156watts of cfl should be good for your veg stage, from all the reading i've done 100watts for 1st plant and 50 watts for each plant additional is minimum so 156 watts should be ok for one plant.More light is always better. How's your plant doing?

New box is built its deminsions are 48" tall. 24" wide and 24" deep. Still have 6 26 watt cfls temp is staying at 80 humidity is at 40%. The box is made of cardboard painted white. Have one 6" intake and two smaller exhaust at the top. She is now 5 days old and is about 1 1/2 inch tall with one set of true leaves. Stem is a hairy purple color. Lights are about 2 inches from top of her. I wish I could post pics but am working from a cheap tablet. Should have my Pc back soon so I will post pica then.

Does this setup sound like it will do for a photo plant.

Do you think one six inch exhaust be good enough or should I.add a six.inch to the already existing 2 four inch exhaust.
