Mephisto Genetics Duckster does Mephisto

Yeah i am starting to think steady controlled defoliation can be quite beneficial, all depends on strain and pheno but basicly just enough to get light into the lower growth and allow it to catch up, i start off just as you have taking a couple of leaves that are blocking out the most light, and then as they grow out a bit and pre flowers appear just look at her and work out where they bud is going to be and make sure that is clear, the whole time keeping a eye on the tops and as soon as a leaf looks to be getting in the way off it comes, the more leaves she gets the less i worry about taking them off where my DBC is at now the max i took was about 7 leaves in a day and then a couple of days later could not even see where i had taken them from and took the same again, am planning for by the time they are in full flower all bud sites will be open and she can be left alone to fatten up.

Your DBC looks to be growing just how my first girl did, and that slow start is what kept her stacked all the way to the bottom as that cabbage formation seems to keep the start of all the bud sites all together and then continue to grow out from there, so got pretty cluttered, so had to keep that area clean to keep air flow and light coming in.

Day 25
I think that I may have figured out the problem with my little cabbages. After filling the pots for my last grow, I added the soil from my first grow to my soil bin. On this grow the soil was at least 50% recycled soil. I normally don't water enough to have a runoff. Yesterday I over watered a bit and the runoff was very dark. I assume the dark color was from nutes that were still in the recycled soil. I flushed them with 30 liters each and the runoff is now clear.

So I'm thinking someone's comment about soil that was too hot for my babies was probably dead nuts on. Hopefully the flush has fixed this problem. The girls are short bushy things with lots of small leaves and are starting to get a nice smell. So now I'm trying to decide to cull or not to cull. Invest another 8 weeks on two small plants with possible small yields or chalk up four weeks as a learning experience and start over. Decisions decisions
Here are the girls.

Yeah they do look a bit small for where you are now mate, at least you pinpointed your problem, they look nice and healthy though so would be a shame to cull them and could still pull an oz from each of them if you get lucky, why not start a bigger girl now and by the time she is a good size these two will be done, you could even sneak another bean in a couple weeks from the end of these two, to go along with the bigger girl.

Thanks for that one Spanglish. That sounds like the best alternative. Even if these two have a bit of a growth spurt (doubtful) there should still be enough room in the cab. Take a few days to get another pot filled and flushed. Course the hard part is deciding what to plant. Leaning towards another Mephisto - just not sure which one.

Well the whole time they are not flowering should be a chance of gaining a bit more size, and even though stunted should only have another 6-7 weeks till ready for the chop with those strains.

What Mephisto goodies you got that your leaning towards, looks like mitch sorted out great as always and you got some choice, never a bad thing ;)

I have Deep Blue C, Sour Crack, Sour Hound, and Toof x Alien for autos. Also have Orange Venom for photo. Been reading smoke reports and they all sound tasty. So in this case I'm leaning like a willow tree - pretty much every direction simultaneously lolol. You (and others) have made the SC and DBC sound soooo good that I may just drop another one of them. Maybe another Sour Crack - They seem to be very quick, this one is already showing a few pistols. Probably just be the flip of a coin in the end though. Either way, I'm sure it's going to be good. They are definitely some hardy girls to survive my newbie feck ups.

Ok so it has been decided. The misses has spoken. Told her what I was doing and that I was undecided on what to plant. She asked what the choices were. I gave her the list and she asked what is toof x alien. Told her that it was a cross between toof decay and something else. Also that is also known as toofless alien. She laughed at that and said "that's the one".

I have filled and flushed another pot and have it waiting in the wings. I have dropped a Toof x Alien (henceforth to be known as TXA) bean into a saturated rapid rooter which I will wring out in about 12 hours. And the waiting begins.

The other girls seem to have spread outward and upward since I flushed the soil. The SC is already putting out pistols and getting a nice smell to her. The DBC is showing her girly parts but no pistols or smell yet.
