Gotta Grow It First
As the title says I am new to growing but have been doing research for some time to understand how it all works. But now am exhausted and going in circles and finally made a purchase.Money is tight...VERY tight so this is a budget get my feet wet type of grow. So,I bought a Mars Hydro tent kit with the TS600 light.I also added from a local grow shop a clip on fan(6 inches),some 10ml/cc syringes for exact extractions of what might be needed,a 16oz measuring cup that has quite a few conversion chart measurements on it,a pot elevator to keep the grow pots off the ground, along with a saucer for underneath to keep water from going everywhere. That should just about round out the kit.I plan on doing one plant at a time to hone my skills and it really is all that will fit in the tent anyway. An oz or two is good by me and for me.Growing is legal here too.

Anything needed like a drying rack for harvest and such will bought when needed. The next issue is I want to grow in soil that is organic so I was thinking a live soil on the bottom and some less ''hot'' soil on top as I would like to drop the seed straight into the 5 gallon pot that is included with the kit.My tap water is listed at about 8ph on the city website(I am in the states Tucson,AZ. to be exact) and we use chlorine at 0.6 to 1.2 ppm.I wonder if I should ph the water down before and after for just basic watering and also for nutes(?)
So I wonder if I can go a good 30 35 days on the soil alone before having to supplement a nute,or is 5 gallon pots enough to coast through to the end? From what I read it seems some kind of supplement WILL be needed....what should I keep on hand....cal/mag?Also I read that adding too many nutes to prevent issues at the beginning adds to nute lock out issues and to only adjust as needed(watch and listen to the plant...THEN respond).

So,what would YOU add before and have on hand to fix a nute deficiency?Looking to keep it tight $$$ wise as well.I think I have read too much and now confused.Anyway thanks for taking the time to read and advise.

Strains are Green Crack and Blue Dream'matic.i ordered from North Atlantic Seed Company and waiting for 'em to arrive while I figure this all out.Water is hard in my city and calcium builds up on the sink faucets.....211 PPM (mg/L) or 12 gpg according to city website.

@DONTON :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome:You are confusing Organic TLS with a salt based soil grow. In an organic TLS you are feeding the soil and the soil microbes feed the plant. In a salt based soil grow both direct ION feeding and microbe feeding are going on. It is important to fertilize with a balanced formula and less is more. This is a page I am working on to help people understand what I mean when I say balanced.

Thanks,I am going to read this now.

You are starting with a nice kit and some nice strains. Good luck on your grow!

Since being on a budget i would just go get some organic miracle-gro at your local store the black bag or you can go expensive with other stuff like buildasoil.com's soil or fox farms ocean forest.

Good luck!

Will probably do Fox Farms....I think. If a 5 gallon pot can go say...a good month for the most part without any feeding when the soil needs a top dress, would a 7 to 10 gallon allow you to go a good two or possibly more months without needing to add anything except water?I know the plants only get so big and there is somewhat a waste of soil but if that did work it would be a lot easier.Sounds crazy but I thought I'd ask.

i did miracle-gro in 3 gallons with 2 plants and they were my biggest plants beating plants i had in living soil in 5 gallons pots. i top dressed buildasoil's buildaflower around week 4-5 and again at week 7ish and i had no issues. in that same grow i did fox farm ocean forest in that same grow.

Here is my journal from last grow where i did ffof vs miracle-gro vs my living soil mix. spoiler: miracle-gro won by a land slide with 244 grams from 2 plants

They all were good smoke tho, so whatever you pick will work fine.

Wow man! Insane grow congrats!! Man I'd love to have a lb. of flower of a few strains on hand.Very nice detailed grow too, thank you.Yeah, when you first mentioned Miracle-Gro I looked it up and all kinds of reviews said it tasted weird and didn't grow well because of nutes in it released too late and such. The few plants that you ran hot still came out great which really shows the resiliency of the plant so it seems there is room to correct when/if shit goes wrong.

Cool avatar by the way too!

Did you add anything in with the Miracle-Gro?

Hello buddy and welcome along to AFN:bighug:
All the best with your grow and with the help of the knowledgeable folks on here you will reach harvest.
AFN is the best place to learn the hobby.

Thank you! It was a really fun test. I can't tell a difference in taste in the miracle-gro soil vs the others but it does have a more potent smell on those 2 plants but thats just the smell i would say they all were the same effects.

Did you add anything in with the Miracle-Gro?
No, i just used the blue bag on that test, miracle-gro moisture control and i added top dress later on.
I'm not trying to sell you on them but if money is a concern i would give it a shot if you have spare money then get fox farms, i did as a new 1st time grower but after buying a few bags of ffof at $33-36 each 1.5cu bag i was starting to wonder what other options i had.
