OK, so I done my live intro and was greeted by some of you (will link to intro) and made to feel welcome in the AFN Community.

So yeah first ever cannabis grow, I have grown many types of veg and herb and flower in my back garden but never cannabis.

So for my first grow I've stuck 2 Polar Expresses in 15L buckets with John Innes seed sowing compost. The reason I've done this is because I killed 3 PE seeds trying to germinate them in Composted Manure mixed with veggie compost and grosure compost with chicken manure and egg shells...I think the very rich mix might have killed them? The seeds "Popped" and had varying lengths of lil taproot across all 5 but the 2 I have going ATM are the only ones alive and all I can think of is the seedling soil is the difference?

I am going to start another 5 PE's when I come back from Rome :D however I'll focus on these 2 for now.

So JInnes Seedling soil and loads of perlite is my medium... Plants growing averagely I feel, healthy green no defects so far. Fan blowing lightly on them 24/7 as we are getting a heatwave in Scotland that's stretching weeks with temps as high as 30! Celsius.

So I have a few questions.

Is John Innes seedling soil ok if I start feeding in a couple weeks? Any better soils I can germinate straight into?

If rich soil is too strong and burns seedlings, yet I shouldn't transplant due to stunting and autos hating it... What option do I have other than seedling soil the whole grow feeding say biobizz grow n bloom WK 3 on?

These really are a low smell strain right?
:P I sure hope so.

Auto's and PE in particular are very sensitive to nutes from what I've read, can someone elaborate on a good feeding schedule or cycle that won't burn it?

Should I spray the leaves with some organic pesticide/fungicide as preventative measure or simply act if there IS a problem?

Thanks in advance, the pics are around week 1

These are pictures taken just shy of the 2 week mark... Is the growth rate healthy enough in comparison to elapsed time? Everything seems to be OK, no leaf abnormalities or stress, watering only with chlorinated tap water. Only nutes whatevers In the john Innes. Fan still lightly airing 24/7 Avg sun temp: 23-28 celcius since birth with what feels like 58-65% relative humidity.
Other plants in polytunnel, I.e tomatoes, herbs, beans, artichokes etc seem to be enjoying their environment which is encouraging.

Looking good, Future. I am not sure what you have going on in that soil as far as nutes, and I am still a newbie, but i think it is a good idea to start adding some root mass increaser, and consider adding lite nutes to the feed soon, particularly if the soil you are using isn't enhanced with nutes. Some folks wait another week for nutes. I think it is based on your plant and soil. Your plants look pretty good for now, but can't go wrong with helping the roots along now.

More experienced growers will certainly chime in. Good luck with your grow! May you enjoy your own bud in a few weeks!

autos dont like real strong soil especialy early in life.
john innes has about 50 different mixes confuzzles me.tried some and it was very sandy weight a ton when watered.i use biobizz lightmmix soil and nutes with half as much again of perlite.some folk tier the soil rich at bottom or a column of weak soil in the middle.biotabs, floganics a supersoil or all organic.
schedules can vary a bit grower to grower depending what they using.
growth looks spot on for outdoors/poly

I grew a Polar Express earlier this year. Loved it. In the same run I had 2 Cash Crops as well. Cash Crop and Polar Express are very similar in look and stone. The Polar Express was covered in trichs. I think that was my 1st Auto Grow, started 12-2017. There should be some pics in that journal -- MrGoats 1st inside Auto Grow - I think.
Anyway the PEA rocked, nothing but good memories of it. I should have more detailed notes in my notebook, i will check if anything stood out enough to make note of and pass it on. Good grow Karma to you!

I went back and looked at my notes for the Polar, it was on the exotic side, lacey type leaves, very very white flowers which went really orange/red the last couple of weeks. Very smooth smoke. If i remember it finished around Day 78.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the one John Innes Mix I've ever tried, hard to tell the weight comparison e.g dry vs wet next sproutings I think I'll try Biobizz light mix with Biobizz grow, bloom and topmax around week 3/4
