New Grower will taking the ripe buds off stunt growth

The worst that could happen? Too much stress and the remaining flowers throw out hermy pods and pollinate remaining plants.

Thanks for that precious nugget......I know this, but never connected the dots to having 3 growrooms running in 3 stages for a harvest a months or so.........it hasn't happened yet.....but it could......

Question ; IF an auto plant does hermie, and here's the tricky part, how long does it take from the first hermie balls develop to they are ready to spread viable pollen, i.e. what kind of timeframe does one have, assuming of course first signs are detected right away?

I just did a partial harvest this weekend. I took half of my plant down to harvest it and leave the bottom half to mature. Like @912GreenSkell said, the technique is sound and has been around for a long while...Im indoors and only use autos. The first half I harvested at day 67.. The 2nd half I will havervest at 77 days. The top half was already showing amber trichs. The bottom half was still clear. The way I see it, the plant has a set life cycle.. Its gonne die at a certain number of days.. Might as well get as much out of it as you can in that short window. Its not to get more bud persay, but to give the already present buds more light and opportunity to fully mature. I also top, lst, fim, transplant auto too though.. so I don't concede easliy to the thought of "over stressing" an auto. They are much stronger than we give them credit for.

When you harvested the 1st half did you just snip the buds off or take the branch right off

I found the rippest bud at lowest point on each branch, then cut the branch right below that ripe bud.

Selective harvests can be a great way to go ... I try to leave as many fans as possible if I anticipate a partial harvest ... @Prophetiko is right about a life cycle ... the whole idea is to make the most out of it ... nice trim job Prophetiko ..

Nice work man ! Looks like they packed on a bit too. Have you ever had problems with hermies by doing this ?

Nope. I dont think there is really enough time for it to herm because of the partial harvest when it's this late in life. I could see that happening if I were leaving the plants for weeks and trying to grow out new bud sites. But the bud is already matured. Its just getting more time and light so it can amber up.

Also ... how long did you leave the rest to go for ?

I harvest the top part this past Monday night at 67 days and I will harvest the rest as soon as the trichs start to show enough amber. The plan is to harvest 7-10 days later AT MOST. But I'm watching the trichs on the buds daily because they can change overnight and will harvest as soon as they are ready!

Some say yes, some say no, lol. Growing is totally customizable. What works for some, may not work for others. You just have to find your groove! Experience is the best teacher. I would definitely recommend new growers like us to at least try it once. And unless you've trimmed a whole plant by yourself before, it will give you a real reality check on how tedious it is, how much smell to expect and how much time it takes. Plus, if you mess up somewhere in the dry/cure process, you didn't mess up the whole plant and all your buds.
Congrats on getting to this point! Happy Growing!

Thanks! And thanks for the fan leaves tip!

I was training an outdoor Auto power from biohazard and I broke the main stalk which was too much for the plant and it hermied(or at least I believe that's what happened) Ive also had some pretty severe main stalk splits on DP's photo(which is a fairly noctorious strain known for potential hermies) during a heavy windstorm, and they hermied shortly after the damage. All of this is theory. Understand that my outdoor climate has other stresses as well(high wind, pounding rain, cold nights). But then I have also done main stalk chops several times and had no issues. All depends on the plant I guess!! As long as you keep a close eye out it should be no problem...spot any hermy signs and chop...not a loss!!
