I have a 50 gallon and a 40 gallon totes cooking media for the next grow. I finished the 50 gallon about 60 hours or so ago. The 40 gallon is close to 36 hours.
That 50 gallon tote got fired up!
Massively fired up!!!
I'm very happy with the results at this point! I wanted to get it going pretty quickly, so i made-up a really good compost tea with the now gnatless Oly compost and a couple of cups of my worm castings
I found. I added some Recharge the last hour of bubbling. I added some aminos at teaspoon of gallon before I applied it to the media.
I didn't add any compost to this tote. I'll be top dressing that once potted up.
I filled the tote in three layers to get properly mixed and an even moisture layer.
BuildASoil Craft Blend what is the main amended ingredient at mid recommended rate. Since this media was a test of coast of Maine in the current grow, I need to add two things, Humichar and BAS Volcanic tuff. I also added some of the new mustard seed I got in, but is at an extremely small rate. That stuff is potent as hell! Also added thorvin kelp at a relatively low rate also. To help feed the microbes and mycelium I use my organic chicken laying crumble as some food. Lots of good hormones in the sprouted grain!
With the first two layers thoroughly mixed and with even moisture, I added the final layer and began to spray it to bring the moisture level up. I applied all the amendments to the top layer and just lightly mixed in with the chicken laying mash being the top layer. I added my bokashi to the top of that and watered it in.
I guess the microbes really liked it!!!!
Most this media is gonna be for my new 20 gallon living soil Grassroot bags.
Hopefully the 40 gallon will fire up here pretty soon too! I'll stir them once the temperature declines a good bit. And check to see if I need to add anymore moisture. I don't think I will add anymore laying crumble on top, but i will probably go ahead and add the bokashi on top!
Even though I'm fairly sure that this media is not too hot to direct plant, i'm still going to plant in some plain Roots 0rganic 0riginal.................. Well I'm going to plant the
rooters into the plain media.
