Completed Wild Bill does EarthBoxes under HLG DIABLO 650R and various fire girls!

Amazing. Mangos N Chem has worked her way thru the nute bank. Feeder roots are just below the surface at the thickest part. So, while I have plants out, I'll check crazy Knows Candy and the other tents after 5pm. No other plants show any problems, but may have to take preventative measures.
I was kinda hoping to only top dress twice........the initial nute mound making and one at the start of flower. No other signs of other nute issues. Maybe it's just her demands.
I guess I can make a conclusion by tonight with the check of all the other girls.

Mangos N Chem and Knows Candy got dressed. As long as I expect Knows Candy to run, I dressed her also.
Each girl got top dressed with the following:
4 Tablespoons of Roots Organic Terp tea
2 Tablespoons of Roots Organic Flower
Roughly 6 handfuls of EWC over the top of that and lightly wetted.

The water to mix into the Lobster compost has the following.
BAS Bloom with 1/4 teaspoon of Aminos
Blue Gold Flower
Source water with 1/4 teaspoon of humic acid per 5 gal

The slurry was added to the tops of both girls, sprinkled with a light covering of Teriganix Bokashi and topped loosly with alfa hay ant the covers replaced.
Both rez were filled stock humic acid water.

I love growing canna. This plant is just amazing.....most of the time. LOL!

PURPLE KONG
IS PRETTY
AMAZING
TO ME!

I had Kong under the MarsSP3000 for the first part of her life. She did great there. I had Ogre Berry in the CALIFORNIA LIGHTWORKS SOLARFLARE 160w in my 2.3x2.3 tent. She was just too damn squatty! I haven't grown OB before, so she gets the best.
I hated putting Kong in there. Good smoke! I really didn't expect much from her because of the light. The footprint is tiny, but it's TIGHT margin for the hot par figures to jump up dramatically.
I had to adjust the light a couple of times a day in the heat of her stretch.
I've only topped her once and bent two of the first main branches. That's it. One topdressing at first sign of flower. Humic acid tap water with BAS Yah-Whey ferment.
I didn't think the bud was going to amount to much in the bulking department. She's defiantly a different girl than the first one I grew. She's more dainty. Maybe more efficient may be a better description. No wasted energy. I haven't taken any leaves. She has spread out to try and gather as much light as she can, but not to waste by over doing it. She is defiantly sucking up all of the photons that light is making. It wasn't anything I did. The plant adapted. She's a steady feeder and drinks about a gallon a day. Her roots are well into the nute mound, but not near as extensive as the other Jrs.
It seems I underestimated both the light and plant. Her buds are firming up very nicely. I'm pleasantly surprised. The funk and frost are coming along nicely also.
The pics don't show her deep green color......silly phone camera.
I sure like the GOOD surprises with canna! :eyebrows: :eyebrows: :eyebrows: :funny: :funny: :funny:

Enough with the ya ya ya!
Here am sum pikturs! Sry dey suk!:funny:

DAY 65
The girls in the 4x4 are showing signs of fade beginning and bud coloring. Still no ambers on SS.

100_0489.JPG

Took the girls out of the 2x4 to look closely at them. Only took a few fans covering buds.
All are drunkards, even with a relatively conservative VPD of 1.33. Ogre Berry is just packing it on da buds. She gets her roots checked quickly after chop. She's got some heft to her with a dry rez. I do need to check again on their root intrusion in the nute bank. She is super healthy and a very pretty dark shade of green and is just plain greasy.

She was a little droopy at first light. Her rez was almost dry, just before lights out and was dry as a popcorn fart.......NOT ol Sleepy's Popcorn!

Kong is the 'soft greasy' feel King.......see whut I did 'dere? That's the feel I get from her. The light has made her of a less robust structure, but she really is doing quite well in the bud department in size and they are firming up nicely

Looking good @WildBill ! Question for you. At what point do you stop top feeds and switch to just water? I've got a Cosmic Apprentice on day 70 now that was last fed about 10 days ago, just coconut and water down the res since. It's looking like it may go last 80, I just don't want it to be starved if it could be bulking up. Thoughts?

I can't really answer your question in reference to EarthBoxes, since I don't feed nutes in the rez water. I strive to keep nutes out of the rez with my method. I only put ferments along with a small dose of humic acid, humic added to ALL water at the rate of 1/4teaspoon per 5 gal.
The use of liquid flower nutes to the 'nute bank' on top of the media the other day, was not planned for the two girls. Mangos N Chem showed a slight lightening in her color. When I looked at the feeder root intrusion into the nute bank, it was well into everything and just below the surface at the deepest part of the nute bank, the mounded up compost and amendments. I added dry nutes on top and added my liquid nutes to the compost to make a slurry and then applied that to the top. The dry nutes need to be made available to the plant by bioactivity, and that takes time. The liquid nutes are readily available to the plant and the additional aminos will assist that uptake. It's a good carrier of sorts.

By keeping nutes out of the rez, the plant can take up water, without the need to take up the nutes in that water. In a 'normal' pot, you can run into problems with running on the higher end of the VPD scale, since you are forcing the plant to take up the water AND the nute in that water. With what is essentially two root systems, the plant will pick what it needs from the nute bank......not you picking what you think she needs, and taking all the water she needs thru transpiration and other plant processes. . With nutes in the rez, it's possible that it could easily and pretty quickly flip on your girl and kill it quite quickly.
If your girls are doing good, just keep doing what you’re doing. When I was using MC in my first grow, I kept feeding until the end.
This way is pretty easy. With the EBs, I only planned two topdressings, the initial setup before the seed is planted and a mainly flower directed topdressing at the beginning of flower. Mangos N Chem turned out to be a heavy N feeder, When I run her again, her nute bank set up will be larger. Mixing up my water is simple. Right now, the most time consuming task is heating the water to the proper temps before going in the rez. With 8 EBs running, that's a lot of water to mix up. If I'm running nutes in the rez, I have to choose what, how much and who gets it. Not all girls are gonna have dry rez at the time, so that means at least two mixing of nutes, if you're lucky.

You see what the results have been so far. It's easier. The girl gets what she needs and you can concentrate on other parts of the grow. They normally have a very pretty natural end of life fade.
If you want to run EBs with this method, Look at my set up at the beginning of this thread. If you want help or questions, you can tag me in that thread and I'll come and help. I'd rather to do it in your thread, so more people will see it and learn or input that could improve it.
That's a huge reason to be here......to learn and share! Don't hesitate to ask anything. If I can help, I will of attempt to find out.

Thanks for the answer @WildBill. Unfortunately you slightly misunderstood my question. I do a weekly drench loosly following the BAS feed schedule - rootwise, enzymes, aminos, TM7, coconut/aloe, silica, 3 or 4 types of ferments etc. I top dress about 2 or 3 times with craft blend, compost, castings, barley and bokashi.

The question was on about the drench with the above^, not adding to the res.

Ok....Got ya!
A key to give you a clue as to keep topdressing wet/dry or not, would be the root intrusion into your nute bank. If you see feeder roots all thru the nute bank, at your late stage, I would just do your liquid part with the same schedule. Other than the EWC, your dry will take some time to be available. The Blue Gold Flower I got from BAS is quickly available and works well for flower. I mainly got it for a little different nute for occasional use in my regular bags, and as a back up for problems(mainly flower, but it does have some N that's quickly available with some other taking some time) that may pop up and need fast help in Earthboxes.
If you don't have something quickly available for flower, it might be good to have something on hand....FFJ too.
On EWC, I think about EWC like my oldest thinks about ketchup. Hr uses it quite often! LOL! The only real downside to EWC is making your soil heavy and ya have to add pumice or something..

Sour Stomper X CDLC] x FORUM STOMPER by Mephisto

At 61 days, she's getting color in her buds. Camera can't really catch it. It's a very pretty violet hue.
It's a freebie.........and the only one I had! If the smoke is good, I'd have a shop full of them. EASY girls to grow and great structure.
