New Grower Why You Should NOT use Miracle Grow!

Nice charts, a real eye opener! but all numbers aside i think we are getting away from who owns MG. the big reason why i suggest people should not use their products. yes to some of you guys "its just Nutes" for others its alot more than that, it goes alot deeper."My 2 cents"

It's called "MIRACLE-GRO WATER SOLUBLE BLOOM BOOSTER FLOWER FOOD 10-52-10." I can't link to it. It stood out to me as comparable to the Sea Grow products I use. Specifically, the Hawaiian bud booster.

It seems there is more to that. For example, MG's selenium is "<0.9870" while Grow More's is "0.5000" (a lower measure than what the "<" might denote for MG).

My only point is that there's not a lot of difference at these levels, and when (for example) .325 or .5 ppm lead when "safe" is 5 ppm.[1]

That is a totally comparable product, I've just never seen it. Not that I check out the MG section too much. Thank you for posting the info it's good to get that info out there.

Many of those ppm # are important when you consider things like Lead, Arsenic, Nickel and others are slow accumulators in people. What goes in your body stays there and builds up over time, so a .335 vs a .5 is almost 20% higher exposure. Safe levels in fertilizers are higher than safe levels for humans because we do not directly consume the fertilizer. EPA vs FDA big difference in 'safe' levels.

The ethos of agriculture needs to focus again on the food and not the $ and dependency Big Ag builds. Thank you for starting this thread IDS! I am organic-based for my vegetable garden but chem in my canna garden, this is eye opening and I may need to reconsider my selection of nutes.

Hi IDS,

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. When I originally read your post I took it as something being bad about the makeup of MG instead of the point you were trying to make regarding Monsanto and for that matter lawn maintenance companies and GMO's. I had not noticed that Scotts had been acquired by Monsanto.

With you 100% on the above issues and will be looking for something else for the garden. The thread did bring up some good info regarding heavy metals in whatever people are using. The link http://agr.wa.gov/PestFert/Fertilizers/FertDB/Product1.aspx will allow folks to check what they are using and verify that heavy metals are low in their preferred product.

I also think it points to another good reason to vaporize instead of smoke since the lower heat will not vaporize nearly as much heavy metals as smoking does.

Peace all!
