Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

Maybe I have too much straw. It's a 1" crunchy layer. I chopped up the mulch to speed the process, but the first bits I laid down just kinda sat there and got crunchy. Wasn't sure it would breakdown before the grow is over, lol.

After my last chop, I now have a solid layer of chopped up mulch. So maybe the straw can stay moist and decay a bit while the bits dry out. Open tops, fans blowin, the tippy top layer stays pretty dry. Wondering if I should get rid of the straw, or churn it a bit.

Clover is ready for another trim already, I might have to start freezing at this rate.

Mist more often or put plastic cover over to help retain moisture ..... When I did open pots, I misted 3-4-5 times a day - I was constantly misting the mulch but be careful and don’t mist the plant or stem just the mulch ..... And I normally am running 4-5 fans in my tent so plenty of air movement, I’m a strong believer in constant air movement so mulch drying can be an issue ..... Another tip is to bring straw into play soaking wet - add some rock dust and / or finely ground egg shells, make sure the shells are mechanically ground fine and then run thru a screen to further chop them down - egg shells and rock dust help the worms digest their food - so important to add to mulch, BEFORE you add mulch to pot, good luck!

Poke a hole with my finger or scissors. And yes, the cup sits over the hole til it sprouts. Easy peasy. Done a few this way already. Each one started directly has been bigger so far than transplanted seedlings. But I have not done enough to know exact difference. Bigger is not always better, but def direct planting grows fastest. Peace, slow

I'll be directly planting either way as thats natures way

Lots of updates. I used to keep this site open all day, but in it's current state it trashes the browser. Too bad.

I'm starting to get the mulch game. Now that I have ~50/50 mix of straw (which I chopped up post application) and chopped up cover crop, it stays moist at the bottom. So far I've been chopping up all greenage and finger mixing it in to get it primed. From here on out it will be chop and drop for a blanket. Not sure how much grit I have in there, maybe I'll add a little play sand to the mix for the worms.

Applied 2nd round of nematodes. My gnat pressure is still very low. Less than a dozen a week so far. Had a little scare so I did a full on scout of everything, everything -- including my soil bin, compost. Found some mites, but after some research -- they are good guy soil mites. They are new, so perhaps from the lobster compost. Little red dudes that move super fast. Mild panic, because they looked spider..ish. But there were none on the plant, only the soil. So... good.

After the scout, I think I found out where the gnats are coming from. It's not the soil -- didn't see anything moving in there except the couple of worms that I dopped in there for yucks sake. The bagged compost. Either the Alaskan Forest stuff, or the Detroit Nutrient EWC. I still have a bit left, I'll deal with it. If I nuke it, it kills the whole purpose of compost.

I slapped a BTI dunk right into the autopot res. BTI all the time probably is what is keeping the gnats very, very low.

Stopped feeding about 2 weeks ago, I have PLENTY of nitrogen -- lol. Still got a bit of curl, but they are growin good. Lesson learned in autopots. Don't top feed too much the youngens. It blows out the bottom. haha. I really dig the autopots, I put a float valve on the res + BTI dunk and I don't even think about water anymore. It just happens.

The non-cannabis plants are doing great. Flowers coming along. Herbs are just starting to pop. It's kind of surprising how fast MJ grows relative to the other things in the tent. 3 weeks to germ on some. Flowers grow slooooooooooow comparatively.

I've been listening to KNF podcasts lately. Think I might do some IMO in the state forests around here (and perhaps my yard as well). Wondering if I could just add a few drops of FPJ to the autopot base. Still learning a ton.

For the 2 pots where my germ failed, I direct planted right into the pot. Got two little seedlings trucking along. Finally got a Man Bear Alien Pig to take. 1 for 5 on those suckers. Hope it's good. Otherwise I have 2 mango smiles, and everything else is onesies in various stages and sizes.

Next nutrient might be this weekend. Just bokashi on the mulch. That should help things along and the worms apparently love that shit. I have some grokashi as well, perhaps a little deeper into flower.

My tentative reamend plant will be: handfull of bokashi, some BAS top dress, layer of compost, fresh mulch and cover for a week or two. Then I'll direct plant next to old one.

Fun times. Y'all stay safe in the apocalypse.

Allllllllrighty then! Just transplanted 1 White Crack and 1 Toofless Alien! The other WC is ready in a day or 2, plus I needed a break. The other Toofless Alien is behind that, it took longer to sprout than the rest, but came up! The Toofless Alien is gonna get large, I can tell by the early growthx they are taller than most at this age. I will be training them for sho. The WC look pretty similar in structure. The Sour Crinkle is coming along. Gonna hold off on the Menage Tyrone x Double Grape for another week. I need to spread things out a little more. I started a lot of plants too closely together, but assumed my Photo plants would be done by now...almost, need 1 more week. Hard to judge when you run something for the first time.
The photos are my first run with them, and last. They look pretty good, but not as fast of flowering as they claim. Not worth keeping clones if it isnt FIRE and takes longer than expected. I actually like the size and shape, but once you factor in veg and flowering time they take longer thsn desired. I put 2 clones in each Junior. I did not top dress them, I wanted to see how the Kis Soil would do. The prob could have been top dressed 1 time, they got a little hungry looking...but not bad. 1 week left, of growing and I will chop them. I used a scrog, they filled it pretty decently. Will replace them with both of the Toofless Aliens. I have a feeling that only 2 will fit in a 4x4 and they might need a scog to maximize yield and tame the height. I have done plenty of White Crack, so I know what to expect size wise. First time with Toofless Alien, but clearly she is gonna be tall. You can tell when a plant is taller than usual. Not stretching, just tall and big for a seedling. A scrog should do that strain good, I use Cobs...so I dont like super tall plants. Cobs need more distance to avoid spotlight effect. Peace, slow

So so so many tempting photos out there. Just not compatible with perpetual. I'm gonna venture out into non-Meph territory next. Maybe some rocbud purples, or Dinafem CBD for the household.

I gotta GYO Jack Herer going -- hope it's really a auto. One of my all time, old school faves.

@slowandeasy sounds like the plants are filling up your tents, good job ..... Have you switched to all Organics or still some coco? Peace always, MOB
At my house, 100% Organic now! But not at my other gardens. My photos are easier to do in Coco to be honest. With keeping moms and clones, Coco is just easier to manage for me. I am getting used to the Organics, and the results seems to be showing! All the plants look great. Im top dressing at the right times. Trying to see how often to top dress. I believe the Craft Blend takes 2 to 3 weeks to get going good. So I am top dressing before flower then 2 more times in Flower. Along with Coconut water periodically. And good genetics. But knock on wood, thing kooks nice. Big plants. Very big for a Junior!!! Grape Rolex Directly planted is a MONSTER! Seriously, its tall and big, but uniform and starting to bud decently. Should yield well. I have top.dressed her 2x already. Will wait a week from now and top dress 1 last time. Should be enough for the remainder of the grow.. All the Roc Bud Inc strains are doing great! Magic Cookies are Perect sized and identical so far. Purple Scoops are doing awesome. ROC it Fuel has a tall and a small. Both with MASSIVE fan leaves. Amazon leaves. They actullly have a more Indica look, and 1 is shorter. Will ask Roc what is normal? They are healthy, and growing fast. Need to move things around. Peace, slow

Good news Everyone! Transplanted the 2nd White Crack. She was a couple days behind in Root Development. I want to stress the importance of moisture level. This seedling was slightly overwatered just once. Up top she looks just a little smaller than her sister. BUT, when I trsnsplanted her the Root development was not nearly as good as her sisters was. Only difference is moisture level. I sprayed the Rootmakers when they needed moisture. 1 time I took the lid off because the misting wasnt coming out great. Little heavy hand and the soil is more moist than desired. This 1 time slowed the root growth down significantly. Not a litttle...a lot! Unless I need space I will be starting my plants directly from now on in Earthboxes. Set it up and let the SIP do its work. Less messing around, no trsnsplanting, and rapid growth. I was really surpripsed at how wet that Seedling was and I didnt think it was that wet. Imagine what a large pot overwatered does to your root system. Peace, slow

Sorry to hear she was a little early, that’s happened before - probably best you do direct plant so long as you have the means ..... I’m giving it a try and will tear apart box when done to check root development but key is yield and quality .....

I do know I’ve been impressed with the root development thus far using RootMaker - even though I blow the pot by cutting sides I’ve never taken one early as if you cut and not ready just tape back up and go a day or two longer ......

Open to trying so I have a couple direct plants in the works, sure they will do fine ..... good luck slow!

The 2nd White Crack transplanted just fine, zero reason to cut a Rootmaker. The 1st White Crack had a much nicer Root system. They looked pretty similar on top, but you can feel the difference in the Rootmaker weight and I know how they were watered. For optimal root growth you want the Rootmaker to be MOIST, not wet ever. I used a different starter soil this round and it stays moist longer and I poured a little too much water once. Also, I noticed that the Orca that I was using did help with root development. I ran out and the root system is not as thick on this one. I will grab some more soon, as early Root development is the key to healthy and vigorous growing plants.
