Whats the difference?

Hope everyone is doing well! I just had a question about the mars hydro series and panels.. Ive been reading a lot about the older models, and new models, 3watt & 5watt.... Im just wondering, whats the difference?
apparently the older models (3watt) are already replaced with the newer models (5watt), but people are saying the older models work better? or newer models work better but arent as strong? or.....

i dont know, I was thinking of buying 2 units but I want to see what everyone thinks so far

That being said....My understanding is that the reflector series is better for coverage (therefore better for scrog, etc.) and the mars II series is better for canopy penetration.

so far thats the best answer i received.. even tho theres a mars rep/mod in this section.

im big on customer service, and so far their customer service is horrible.

The ref series blends the light with its silver reflector cups, the m2 blends through the proximity of the higher number of diodes the pro series is amix of both. I have a ref 48 low power but good quality,plus ive had great experience with their customer service.

Hi Vedder6.0, The 5w chips are stronger than 3w ones, got better penetration, we replace all the leds on reflector series to 5w chips, and add heat sinks, so the reflector series now are upgrated with better penetration while still working cool. The reflector cups can mix the spectrum better, and no waste of the light. But comparing to the Mars II series, in a same size light, Mars II series will got more chips on, so Mars II will be much powerful still.

Correct me if im wrong but are you saying all reflector series were 3 watt with no heat sink but were dissassembled and upgraded to 5 watt plus heat sink?

The 3w version gives out very little heat, no need heatsinks.
