Euh...

24/0 means 24 (light) + 0 (darkness) = 24 hours
20/4 means 20 (light) + 4 (darkness) = 24 hours
18/6 means 18 (light) + 6 (darkness) = 24 hours

Hummm...

Why should an "auto" conform to a 24 hours schedule exactly???

After all, i'm ready to bet there's some excess time wasted here!

How many hours does a plant need to rest? How many hours can she work before she needs to rest?... What's a cannabis plant supposed to do when it's not time for her to be resting nor working!??

Is this all just because there ain't no timers on the market which would support days with a different duration than our terrestrial day?

I wonder.

i do 24/7 but i have to i would rather have 20/4

24/7 probley cuts finishing time about 3 or 4 days

Griever, what's your outdoor day night hours now? Plus your OD all the time right?

Sunrise at5:51 AM Sunset at7:27 PM Duration of day: 13 hours, 36 minutes

This may not be his exact time, but not everybody lives in Canada and not everybody grows indoors...

Might try asking like you had some manners and respect!!!!!

hmmmm... well... i have a few things to say here...

Egzoset's post didn't come across rude to me... just my :2cents: on that...

I voted on the 20/4 and that's my norm. But on my last/current grow. I to, was growing photo's and put 2 other different strains of auto's in w/um...One was the Purple Jem and the other my cross, the Power Pac. The PJ did fantastic under 12/12 lighting. Better than any of their other grows. Now, on the other hand, my Power Pac didn't do near as well.

Now this is my opinion, but both auto strains had different Rudy origins. One did fantastic and the other didn't. So my conclusion is that it seems to depend on the Rudy strain used in making the auto...

Now don't get me wrong, the Power Pac did ok, but just not her usual beefy self. I think more strain testing needs to be done to get a real clarification, but that's how this grow grew for me...

Hope this helps :peace:

I found the same issue with the akrunners (is that same as powerpack? cant remember final name decision)

anyway... indoor under 20/4... they kicked ass!!!!!

so i figured theyd kick ass outdoor in HID sunlight... :)

but much less dense and prolific... now i had a screwy season with some rain... but during the right time... they had lots of heat, sun, nutes... soil h was solid... just didnt perform as well outdoor...

now bad betty on the other hand... did great outdoor in less than great conditions.... so i think strain is definetly a factor...

now... on to questions about what plants do at night... and such
hey... you opened the can of worms.... I'm just dumping it out and letting you pick the worms you wanna try... :)

AutoFlower Network - Forum Home - Photosynthesis - and what do plants do at night?

ok... one moire comment...

Egzoset may be on to something here... experiments have been done with lettuce... and something like 80% of normal growth time can be achieved by changing timer cycles.....
cant remeber the exact specifics... long time ago i did the research..

but... i think they used a 14/4 light cycle... so 6 hours a day dropped.... making days 18 hours long days...

18/24 =75 % of a normal day....
so i guess that about makes sense....

:smokebuds:....

its something ie been wanting to experiment wth... but have no extra time / space to do it atm...

I think i see what my fault was, i'll try to act accordingly.

Ive read multiple places 24/0 yeilds 5% more. I know alot of people say that it makes sense for them to have a rest cause everything needs a rest. But in my opinion, they don't need a rest because they get thier energy from the sun, we rest because we need time to regain our energy. Plants don't sleep so why would they need a rest when they can continuously gather energy in a indoor growing enviorment.

Just my 2¢. Everybody has their own opinions and choices to make. Try different things and find one you like. I will be trying 20/4 my next grow. However I will always start my plants 24/0 until they show sex.

Plants actually do have a "sleep" mode when the hormones in the plant change as it stops photosynthesizing and growth on the top side of the soil slows to a crawl and it starts putting energy into roots instead. It's not like you won't get roots at 24 hours of light, but they may not be as healthy and large...

I, too, have autos on a 20./4 cycle and then put them into my flower room. Until I get a little tent to stick in that room, then they'll do 20/4 all the time. They do need sleep, just as all living things do.
