But don't they need a dark period for growth ?

Thats a long discussed topic for me I like 4 to 6 hours of dark helps with the heat in my area and I think it helps with veg in my cab, every ones environment is different tho? it is best to experiment and see what suites you.....

20/4 had to get my vote. BUT, 18/6 is also good. plants need rest to grow jus like an athlete.

This is totally unscientific but with my first hydro experience 24/0 was too fast. 20/4 works for me.

24/0 for me, only on my 2nd auto grow and both times they've drooped with the lights off, more experience required before I can figure out why.

leds are cheaper to run.but even so I didn't want to run 24/0.so it was a toss up between 20/4 and 18/6.in the end I went 19/5 just to be different.that was 18 + months ago, havnt touched the timer since.no science, just laziness.

its normal for them to droop a bit with the lights off. they move leaves etc to pick up light more efficiently, no light=no reaching for it.

i use 20/4 recommended by alot and ive had good results.
a few hours with the lights off will help stop leaves getting burned and dried out etc. if nothing else.

take a look at a speeded up dutch passion video on youtube, leaves look like they flapping like wings.

I used 20/4 for my first grow since I'd seen the majority of guys who got great results had been using the 20/4.. I have 2 WoS AKR seeds that I may see about trying a 20/4 - 24/0 run-off.. Only problem I have is that I don't have 2 LED panels yet, so maybe in the next couple months while my 2 Auto Jack seeds do their thing I can pick up another panel and run them off with the only difference being lighting.. At least I'd know how it affected the AKR strain..

I'm ran mine 20/4 to start but I gradually increased the dark period as they flower. I also benefit from the added dark period in the hot afternoons, it really helps keep the heat down. Mine are at about week eight and currently receive 17/7 but I'm also trying to push them to finish a little sooner. Next week I will drop to 16/8 and finish there. Autos seem to finish fine under 24 hours of light but I believe they benefit from the down time, and they are still a plant after all. Their DNA still says there should be a night and not full sun all day, every day.

I'm doing my first autos at 24/7 but my next grow will be at 20/4
I think there is some benefit in the 4 hrs rest
