Lighting What are you waiting for? What's going to change the game? Who is doing interesting stuff?

Y'all have been talking about UV supplemental lighting. I read an article, and of course can't find it now, about using a type of light for 15-20 minutes after your main lights go off. Something about simulating what the plants usually experience outdoors . and by doing so increased trichome size and terps. Any of this sound familiar to y'all? I've been looking for this post/article for days and I can't find it. It was interesting.

Far Red flower initiation. You run a 730nm light for 5-15 mins at lights out to stimulate Phytochrome B. It forces them into the Calvin cycle (I think) in 5-15 minutes rather than two hours. It can also be used before lights on for the same duration.

I maintain a low EC in my hydroponics below 1.2 through flower and many substrates suggest using low ECs. Higher ECs have affected my taste and aroma. The first time I took the advice to run a low EC was the first time I had terps to clear a room and taste that impressed. Idk if it's something universal but at the least I agree with Harley Smith that less is more. If can run a .8EC to harvest then the manufacturer's 'suggestions' are invalid lol.
I add EC when the levels are falling and lower the EC if rising . The last run topped out at 1.6ec 800ppm and my current has pushed to 1.8ec 900ppm. They are my first autos in Dwc and I am a little surprised that they asked for that much but they are large plants given their own 2×4 to run wild in. Lol

Gavita got back to me about timing with the light. They recommend it for the full 12 hours!!!! Crazy to me. They also don't have a way to time it individually, which for autos makes me wonder if it will be on too long? Or it just simulates sun UV and wouldn't matteR?

So, did you buy the light already? Is it the UVR LED bar they are selling? Looking at the pictures with it, that is a really really narrow UV spectrum they are selling. It's between what looks like 365nm and 380nm. I was poking around looking for UV LED fixtures but it seems like everyone only has the higher wavelength UVA currently. The limited research I could find suggested you need a mix of UVA/UVB for good response. I could be wrong and there are definitely guys on here with way more light knowledge than I.

If that spike is so short it probably isn't into a damaging enough wavelength that is can be run for so long. All the lights with UVB suggested just a few minutes per hour. @Mañ'O'Green has a UV fluorescent bulb setup that he runs for a couple hours a day towards the end of flowering. I was kind of surprised at the time/length but he has got it dialed from the obvious results.

I think he is also running a "10k UVA plus" finisher bulb at the same time. If you're thinking of adding UV, and I know that UVR is going to clip to your Gavita nicely, you might be better off investing in a couple of the UV fluorescent bulbs. I bet they will be significantly cheaper and the spectrum looks like it will be "better" than what the LED guys are pushing right now.

Id at least look at the Agromax UV bulbs. A 4' fixture would probably zip tie to that black bar in the middle of your 1700e and then you could use a timer. Either the pure UV that is UV-A/B or the 10k UV-A plus. If I had the space I'd copy some of MOG's setup and run a 4' of the 10k-A on the sides and one Pure UV down the middle.

Price wise I bet that Gavita is $$$$

UV-A/B

UV-A plus

HTG is the only place I've seen selling the agromax bulbs but man, they are cheap.
