I was thinking of getting some of the interlocking foam pads to use as a base....for now i'll just prop them up on boards. No need to get too fancy! From what i have seen, the basement floor stays super warm even in the heart of winter.(but to be honest i dont go down there too often)

Ha!! Did some playing around on the stove element last night and ended up with some pretty sweet hash after a hour or two screwing around.

Feel the floor with your hand on a cold night. Wood should be ok, cardboard and old towels even. Just a buffer.

Gotcha on the floor buffer...will make sure something goes down and be sure to check out the temps of the floor when it actually gets cold(not the zero C tempts we are currently only into)

My two cents on basement grow is a rack or anything that keeps pots from touching floor. My first grow in basement went okay but when lifted pots they had mold. So I put boards down. Then boards molded. So i have settled on a pvc frame with metal racks zip tied to frame. No mold or water standing anywhere.
