I tried growing 3 autos for the first time. I've been growing Photos for about 5 years. I started them in Solo cups and the seeds popped on May 1st. I transplanted them to 5 gal. Smart Pots on May 23rd in Sohum Living Soil for an outdoor grow. I did top them once. 2 of the Autos are very stunted and they are currently in flower. The 3rd auto is small but growing, but oddly it is not yet flowering and is acting like a photo period plant in veg. I'm just wondering what could be the likely cause of the stunting and why the 3rd wouldn't be flowering at all yet on day 75?

Welcome to AFN, 1st thing i will ask is, Were you feeding autos full strength nutrients as you would a photo? or just watering in and letting the Sohum do the work?

Show us some pictures please :smoking:

I am using water only and letting Sohum do the work. I have used Sohum before with Photos with good results. First 2 pictures are the stunted autos in flower and the 3rd picture is the Auto that is not flowering yet. The 1st picture is from Humboldt seeds and it's "Sol-Mate" strain, 2nd is Chocolate Skunk from 00 Seed Bank and 3rd is 00 Kush from 00 Seed Bank.

I know nothing about Sohum Living Soil but i have made my own living soil in the past and i still needed to top dress it to feed it after 5-6 weeks or so of it growing, if i had to guess it would be they are hungry but you have used this soil with photos with success so that rules that out so it must be something else.

Are they are getting enough light and are not heat stressed?

@WildBill Have you ever used Sohum Living Soil? What do you think?

There's a simple answer to this and that's is you transplanted them. With autos it's best to start in your final pot. Soon as the tap root hits the bottom of the container it puts all its energy into growing. If transplant after that they will then redirect their energy to filling out their roots in thenext pot which inturn takes away all the energy for growing large and the stretch.

Transplanted autos is probably the biggest cause for stunting them we seeing AFN

No, but people that use it seem to be pleased.

To the OP:
Sure, you can have a water only grow with Sohum, BUT................. Pot size is the key!
Bigger pot means a bigger bank to draw from!
I'd never do a water only grow. I would have to do teas and Recharge at the very least. More microbes to make more of the nutes available to your plant.

As far as stunting in your case, it's not your media. Don't know where you live, but with the limited info, I'd say they are not getting enough light for one thing.
In future grows, up your pot size and direct plant. I'd say 15gal minimum.

The first question addresses your main question of a water only grow.

I live in the Denver area, close to the foothills so light isn't a problem. I've used Sohum a couple of times for photo period plants. In both grows I was able to go through all of veg and part of bloom before needing to add bloom nutes and booster in the last few weeks. I need to be able to move the plants because it's actually against our HOA to grow cannabis, If it wasn't, I would grow in the ground.
