New Grower Very first plant approaching harvest!

Howdy Rag...Welcome to AFN...1st off ..I'm a newbee to growing, but I think the same way as you about trimming..I feel the plant is done growing as that stage and is focased on spreading her jean's..No matter what she has been breed to do,Mother nature still rules her..I trim my gals and doesnt seem to upset them..But that could be a little nute burn too..She is yours..All you can do is ask, then weigh out your options..If nothing else you'll learn..Just my thinking..

:peace:

Ps She is a good looking gal..But i agree with the others..give her another 3 weeks for sure..She'll tell when she is ready to smoke your thought

Hello Ragnar, your low run off ph of 5 means your soil ph is even lower, perhaps 3.1 to 3.5.
Im not a soil grower but i think a flush might be adviseable.
I would ask the experts in the Live Help thread for their opinion which is best way to go.
Good luck pal.
Lovely plant by the way, theres a few more weeks to go yet.

Fantasy island: I did name her Lagertha, and looking forward to cutting her down to make room for Aslaug

Thanks HD, appreciate the wisdom. I'm still learning, but getting comfortable. I figured it might be a little longer. I'm not cutting her down till I've got a fair amount of Amber trics in the scope, so no worries about premature evisceration Lol

. I figure i need to make some adjustment to the soil itself to correct this, but what can i do for my existing pants?
-ragnarr

i suggest the cotton setting on your washing machine. Failing that, bash them between two rocks in a stream.

Lmfao!!

I totally missed that... You are one funny guy Angular....lolol

I don't know dude. She's super skinny and selfish. I would just call them all lagertha super sexy , a fighter and can't produce males :xlaugh:

First off - Welcome to AFN! Sounds like you got a serious pH issue. Using the runoff method to estimate soil pH can be a bit sketchy. Lots of room for error especially if your pH pen is not calibrated correctly. The numbers that you posted would suggest a crazy low soil pH. For example, if the liquid going in is 6.5 and the runoff is at 5.0, this would suggest that the soil pH is down around 3.5. At that level just about all nutrients are locked out. Meaning even if the nutrients are in the soil, the plant roots can not absorb them because the pH is so low. I'd be surprised if anything could survive long at that level.

However, before I got all crazy with trying to fix the problem, I would verify that there is a problem. First, I would do a two point check of the calibration of my pH pen. Second, I would get a proper soil pH probe to test the soil directly. The Accurate 8 is a good one and seems to be a standard here at AFN (that's what I use). The Accurate 8 costs $60-70. There are cheaper ones out there but ya get what ya pay for IMO.

Note that the Accurate 8 can take about 10 minutes to give you a reading depending on the condition of the soil (wet/dry). Not sure about other brands. I would check each pot 4-5 times a different locations and depths and average the readings for each pot. I would repeat the process in a day or two under different wet/dry conditions. The numbers will change depending on how dry the soil is. For example my soil is down around 6.2-6.3 wet and up to 6.7-6.8 dry.

If you find that your pH really is low, there are lots of ways to fix it. But first verify that there is really a problem.

I'm subbed and will check back on your progress. Or feel free to PM me. :goodluck:

Good advice duckster, here's an update. I recalibrated my ph pen, it was a little off. I then flushed with 7.2 tap water. Now my run off is holding at 6.2. In theory that means my soil ph is sitting around 5.2. But like you said, runoff is sketchy. At this point I think I'm gonna let her dry out a couple days, and see where I'm at next time I water, unless I manage to pick up a soil tester before then.
