Look at the underside of your leaves... could find some tiny bugs there... spider mites! .. correct me if im worng.

so I adjusted the pH up to 6.4 added big bud and half strength formulex and watered (to the base tray, naturally). Then as an afterthought I took a peek at the underside of the leaves and what d'ya'know, bugs, tiny white mites - not many mind you but they are definitely there.

Is there a cheap effective way I can eradicate these little shaggers?

Photos

Here's a photo of a baby mite (sorry about soft focus) and a view of one of the leaves with background light.

There a few tiny flies in my grow room, but not many, they kind of look like fruit flies but I'm not sure if they are responsible for the yellow freckles on the leaves.

If anyone can offer any help, please please help me deal :help:

hard to tell in the pic... but if they look / act similar to fruit flies... they are prob fungus gnats.

get some mosquito dunks and use in your water...

also, make sure you are not overwatering... wet soil breeds this lil bastards well... if you are watering in a good sign wave, you should see lower populations without any remedial action, tho I'd reccomend you handle it quick, cuz they can damage roots pretty bad. :smokeit:

now if they are SPIDER MITES... its a whole different game... they are very tough to eradicate.
I'd reccomend a several-pronged approach...

1 Spinosad - aka Captain Jacks Dead Bug - 1x week for 2 - 3 weeks

2 lady bugs AFTER the spinosad treatments (to prevent future breakouts)

the 300 small package would do ya fine...

Thanks JM, I'll ask in my local store.

I'm not sure what you mean, I water the base tray once a day and only if it's already dry.

bad practice mate!

water from the top... always!!!
this does a few things:

1 Flushes excess salts to help prevent lockouts
2 insures you dont waterlog the soil as this bcomes a breeding ground for EVERYTHING you Don't want in your grow, fungus gnats, root rot, molds... etc
3 Learn to judge the weight of your pot as a way of determinig the amount of water needed / how dry it is. - to calibrate yourself initially, use the index finger to the second knuckle in the soil about 2 inches from the edge of the pot... push in to second knuckle.... it should feel only slightly moist before you water... if its wet, damp, or very moist, dont water yet.

:smokeit:

hope this helps

also, when watering, its good practice to water until runoff of about 10% of the pot's volume

and remember, we are trying to emulate mother nature.... water usually comes in rain form... (small distributed droplets from the top, draining down through the soil)

actually, just to show yourself what i mean... set up 2 cups... water one correctly and water one from the bottom for 4 days.... then dump both out.... you'll see the difference immediately.. :smokeit:

:howdy:You may want to check your runoff after you water your plants to see what the runoff ph is. If you are using 6.5 in, but getting a lower ph coming out, then you may have to actually increase your ph.......gradually, too fast can stress your plant, to bring the soil to an actual 6.5 ph.:2cents:
Muddy is the expert on that, and I have to say I still have difficulty maintaining a proper ph for my plants, but hopefully practice will make it easier.:D
While I know nothing about led lights, yet I wonder if you may have yours too high?
I am using a 400 watt hps and it's about maybe 9 inches above my plant.
Once again, Muddy is very knowledgeable about led lights also.
So, these are unknown seeds? No idea of what strain they are? I have no idea if Ireland has the crappy street weed we have here in the states, but hopefully you'll have something worth all the work and stress.........:smokebuds:

It certainly does. I'll cease my previous watering regimen completely and start watering from the top, thank you :)
