New Grower TxRebel 1st grow Gelato from Fastbuds

U have me inspired to grow some worms at home I’m thinking @MrOldBoy cuz u have good results for sure! Do u just feed the worms in your soil whatever the plant may be needing so they digest whatever nutrient plant needs? So many diff people with such diff advice for same question it started making my ears bleed! Thanks for stopping in kind sir! :d5:

Ok from who I’ve seen people referring to for good soil recipe I now turn to you @Eyes on Fire so hoping u will help me out! I’m gonna make some good soil (hope it’s good) but so many variations on what people add and see some that seem to have waaaaay more ingredients than others and since I gotta buy all the ingredients to even get started I DONT WANNA BUY STUFF I DONT NEED! Can u please help with good recipe I can start from?? Only need 1.5cu ft (1 bag of soil) for next run but I can make extra no prob! Just not 200gallons worth!
I would greatly appreciate any insight here buddy!
:thanks: Ahead of time!

@hecno or possibly @MrOldBoy can either of you help me with a good supersoil recipe for autos PLEASE?!? Have some lil ones in jiffy I was going to buy LOS soil from build a soil but if y’all could help with a recipe for autos and smaller batch since most recipes are to make 200 gallons! I’ll only need 15 or so at a time but can make a lil extra! Just don’t wanna make so much it’s a pain keeping it alive between grows! Thanks and hope y’all can help here :d5:

I use a mix of buildasoil and KIS along with EWC but the recipe most follow is Coots https://growingorganic.com/soil-guide/coots-soil-mix/

To keep my soil alive I feed the worms mulch and things like Karanja cake, kelp, alpha, rock dust, etc and with a plastic cover over it and keep in basement.

@TxRebel First up , keeping soil alive in between grows is dead easy , Feed the microbes and make sure there is food for the worms , as for advice MrOldBoy would be the one to advice you , I use what is around me in my environment , like can you get curly grub poo or raid a Bush Turkey nest . Are you able to get some soil from a large Bamboo Plant --- Do you live in a city or a small country town , What about cow - horse manure ? you see what I am saying , The big question is what is your environment . The better I understand that the better I can advise you .

Unless I hit up build a soil I don’t even have local worm castings I can source! Horse or cow poo prob no problemo! I went and priced each ingredient that’s on Coots soil list and can buy it premade thru BAS for $65 but only $110 before worm poo to get all the ingredients so if it is 1 I can trust will work I would have ingredients for like 3+ yrs of making soil! Guess making 1st round and then just amend it afterwards! Since I only have lil 2x4 tent would it be wasteful to buy ingredients separately or should I just buy it pre bagged and ready to dump into soil while I am small scale??
Thanks for the pointers and Merry Christmas

Correct and you can include kitchen scraps in that list along with good clean cardboard, the list goes on ....

Key to keeping soil ali e is keeping the worms happy -take a step back and figure out how to raise worms, red wrigglers, and the blanks will get filled in - it’s actually fairly easy but most will over think it, but it’s all about the worms @TxRebel

Thanks buddy! I appreciate it! Don’t have worms yet but since all soils/teas etc use the castings and nowhere near me has em (and worms themselves are super expensive) but found a lb (about 1000) red wriggler worms for $35 I believe! Do they require special attention for temperatures cuz doing my growing now in my bedroom since it’s not legal so trying to be slick about it plus Tx weather sucks ass! Was 70 out today! Have a Tupperware in my closet I grow on so could swap it for a worm bin if they’re sensitive to temperature (kinda like me at times)?!? I am super tired of bottled nutes already so be nice just to have it in the soil or if it runs low topdress some extra soil! Need to continue reading as I prob smoked away most of what I studied! Thx again :d5:

Buy buildasoil 3.0 or KIS Original or BioChar and top dress with Oly Mountain Fish Compost and you’ll have some beautiful results - add some EM1 or Mammoth P to each watering and watch it grow - maybe even throw in some straw mulch on top and some cover crop - it will look something like this when all growing nicely .... Good luck and happiest of holidays!

Also would I be correct in assuming if said plant is a heavier feeder on a particular nute more than others I just add lil extra of whichever ingredient is heaviest on that element or if all around eats like a cow just fill lil more of the soil into bottom of pot before seedling mix goes in?? Been reading lots but every site has 20 diff answers for same question so driving me bonkers!

I can def handle that! That was what I was looking into getting 1st to sounds good! I made the mistake of not listening when dude at hydro shop said his soil was alive and to just water so even with nectar being gentle still wound up with all kinds of N burns and stuff cuz says soil ppm needs to stay 3-500ppm and soil being alive it kept it buffered so it never built up to that level til maybe 2 weeks ago! Ignored it on lil ones going into flower and never hit the ppm but no burns or def but gets old mixing 6 nutes every 2 days and having to slurry soil often! It’s made me see the full organic light! :headbang:
