TLO: For dummies, from a dummy.

I mix them all up..Im making my own mix ..thats really what it will manifest itself into..what you feel like you want or need or looks fun or cool to add...I mean after you add the basics ,,It can be like the nute train but more fun cuz its all natural ..bags and bags of things in the cupboard lol what mix did i follow? MINE With the help of X lol Whats in it lol list too long ..as much as i can find thats organic .Mix it up let it cook watch it grow!

I like the Organic Espoma potting mix for this purpose
Yea this stuff is great if you can find it..I opened the bag and was happy..its what i thought FF would be.I am seeing the Roots soil on the rise to popularity here at AFNlogomight be worth checking out.:2cents::stylez rasta smoke:

I don't see any real benefit to a TLO grower to use anything other than a simple base to get started... i.e: Pro-Mix, Espoma Organic, etc.

For our purposes, you do need a quality base with regard to infestations, and such... but, we don't need to pay an additional $10 a bag because it's the latest rage on canna sites. With L's recipe, you are actually creating a mix that is far superior to Roots Organic, Fox Farms, etc. :peace:

Yes, that is what I realized when I was researching the myriad of different TLO recipes, and when the light finally came on for me, that it would be unnecessary to spend the extra money on a pre-mixed organics 'base' such as those mentioned, in going with a recipe such as L's.

I do use FFHF for starting my seeds in though, with excellent results, as a TLO mix such as L's would be a little too hot, for seedlings.

It still amazes me, when I am starting fem seeds in their permanent containers, filled with TLO, with the exception of the middle, where one hollows out enough space(size of a 18 oz. party cup or so) in the TLO to fill it with a seedling mix such as HF, one can almost see the day that the roots hit the TLO as the growth above ground just explodes.

I'm sure this has been covered in a previous post of this thread, but it bares repeating, if are you considering, or making a TLO recipe for the first time. It is of utmost importance in using approximately 30% perlite to your mix for proper drainage.Due to all of the amendments you add, your mix gets very compacted quite quickly.

TLO lifer here.:peace:

It has produced the best results with seedlings of anything I have tried.

Great time for a reminder.

Agree but if you dont have the money for all the things at one time..its cool..I didnt have or couldn't find things in my area well didnt know where to look so i added as i found it to those soils and i dont think it would be a minus in anyway?

I don't see how it could hurt anything.

My idea is to do like you say but have a smaller buffay and keep adding new things to the menu as i gain confidence and skill.I used my bag soil as a crutch till i could get my feet under me so to speak :p

I dont like MG anything..and depending the location you are in its mostly big sticks and pine bark chunks.Open the bag look at it..potting soil is better.
