New Grower Thoughts on Stretch ?

I have found that the amount of blue in the lights may cause more stretching more blue spectrums in the bloom cycle can cause some long stretching. And it may be strain specific as well. If you have your Temps in check your humidity in check and nutrition in check and light spectrum in check then it may be the type of cannabis you have. If hight is an issue try some LST and train away if you wish. I have found from my own little testing to water first light they tend to stretch less imo may have been they type of cannabis in question but I can't say for sure. I also watered before lights out and found they stretched more and it was the same type as the one watered at first light may have been difrent phenotype but it was a solid strain with little to no different sisters so to speak. Are you using hps or led

I don't really have a massive problem with stretch, just, I'd like to minimize it as much as possible as my lights don't penetrate that far as they are 3w LED's. cheers

Interesting. Although, the nodes look pretty close so far in those pics. What strain you got there buddy?

If you want better light penetration try some CFL side lights I do so this in my own led setup the mix of CFL and LED complement each other very well you can help tune in your light spectrum this way. It's all about preference of growing styles in the end my friend happy growing. Keep them green

How do you guys deal with the stretch period? Already I do the following to reduce it -

Try & keep the light off period as close to the temp as the light on period.
Water a bit less.

Any other tips? Was thinking maybe I should keep the light on 24/24 during this period as well & then go back to 20/4 after, anyone do this ?

cheers all

My limited understanding of stretch is that it's affected by the distance to my lights, but most significantly the range of difference between high/low temps each day.

I have switched soils and have been adding lime from the beginning with my new soil so it could be something else but I have noticed less stretch and think it is from the lime in my soil. Thinking low mag can cause stretch but I might be wrong.

I would say keeping the lights close is the best defense. It is potassium that causes structural growth. You might want to make sure to keep that on the lower side. No silica supplements or anything. If you want to get creative, try keeping the light at 45 degrees and running the span of the plant from the tip down. Move the light every day or so to a different side. This will grow the bottom branches out at the same pace.

You could also tip the plant, and rotate that each day. Then you would spread the light evenly from top to bottom, and cause the hormones to be more diffused through the branch tips. Use the same 45 degrees.
