How do you guys deal with the stretch period? Already I do the following to reduce it -

Try & keep the light off period as close to the temp as the light on period.
Water a bit less.

Any other tips? Was thinking maybe I should keep the light on 24/24 during this period as well & then go back to 20/4 after, anyone do this ?

cheers all

I use 24/0 alot to help control stretch,in my experience cannabis never does nothing,it stretches during those dark periods just like any other low light senario.

Here are 2 examples: the first plant was grown under 20/4,the second under 24/0

Now theres a big difference in pot size here but I think you can see what im getting at 20151228_115501_noexif.jpg 2016-02-11 22.46.38.png

Im currently experimenting with an 8 hour dark period every 3 days.

Interesting conversation

I'm on my first 24/7 lighting because of heat issues and find I'm getting more stretch...

31 days old

Since I moved to cobs it has helped alot as well,I think less emphasis on far red,but im not entirely sure. But the red/blue type leds was a constant battle with stretch.

I imagine a good thing to do is switch to bloom nutrients at preflowering, less N should keep them a bit lower.

ah yeah, kind of already do this as I use bloom from start to finish a la Tang, works well for me.

Would like to upgrade but can't right now. Perhaps i'll switch the lights onto full spectrum bloom sooner though (mars reflectors)

Here was a red dwarf I had on 24 tell day 30. I did not go through the stretch at 24 though. I did 20-4 from day 30 tell harvest but up tell the 24 it stayed short. I am growing another red dwarf that is at week 3 that's taller than this one so far. I honestly think this plant liked 24 better than 20-4 so far comparing pictures.

I have found that the amount of blue in the lights may cause more stretching more blue spectrums in the bloom cycle can cause some long stretching. And it may be strain specific as well. If you have your Temps in check your humidity in check and nutrition in check and light spectrum in check then it may be the type of cannabis you have. If hight is an issue try some LST and train away if you wish. I have found from my own little testing to water first light they tend to stretch less imo may have been they type of cannabis in question but I can't say for sure. I also watered before lights out and found they stretched more and it was the same type as the one watered at first light may have been difrent phenotype but it was a solid strain with little to no different sisters so to speak. Are you using hps or led

You know AutoFox I thought blue light would have less stretch and I found the same thing. My MH bulb made a more stretched auto than my HPS. I only grew under it once and I think I switched mid flower due to it running hotter before I got my AC in the room so I also believe the more blue spectrums stretch plants in flower too. I have seen buds grown under MH though that had killer trichomes. I have not went full flower in MH to see if it increases trichome production or not but if it dose it might be worth the stretch.
