Hi all,

Starting my first PC grow within the next month and when looking for strains am always pointed to autos..

I feel I have some misconceptions of autos that are stopping me even giving them a chance.. Can you tell me if I am right (probabaly not!)?

I always thought that due to autos having ruderalis in that it automatically means that any auto is not going to be potent whatsoever so much so that it will 100% be noticeable when smoking them.

My biggest fear is going through the whole process and ending up with however much dry weight of useless bud that isn't even going to get me high and then have wasted a whole 2-3 months on it...

Now I see so many of you growing auto's so am certain this isn't the case but having never smoked any I just can't get this preconceived notion out of my head.

Interested to hear from some of you that have grown and smoked your own autos AND regular seeds for comparisons!

It would make my first grow so much easier to grow an auto so I am hoping you can change my mind!

Thanks in advance

Hey @Seshwan brother youve come to the right place.
Ive heard all that nonsense floating around about autos too.
There are loads of auto strains tested at over 20% thc mephistos alien v triangle strain has been tested at 27%
Autos will get you stoned no problem man.

I grow autos exclusively. I have a handful of hardcore smokers(20 years+ smokers) who visit spain and holland 2 or 3 times a year.
On more than a few occasions they tell me the stuff i grow blows anything theyve ever had from the coffeeshops outa the water

Thanks man appreciate that. I have just had a quick look at your journal and your plants look amnazing brother good work.

One question I do have after looking at your big bud XXL, what is it that would prevent mine growing so big as yours did? Just the size of pot?

I was wanting to do a non auto for the simple reason that I could veg for maybe 2 weeks and stick straight into flower with some training as the PC case is not that big.

I've grown photos for a couple decades, am just starting to mess with autos. Your fears are not unwarranted.
I grew out 2 Northern lights autos this summer. Good growth, healthy plants...completely unworthy of smoking. Great bag appeal... 2 joints back to back for a buzz. Completely unmarketable.

The breeder I chose was one you don't see a lot of on this forum. So maybe that has a hand in it (not going to name them, I did a journal if you wanna find out)

I will do 1 more grow of autos, to give them a fair shake, I see the followings some of the breeders have amassed.

So, I would say choose carefully and listen to the advice given. My next tent will house Mephisto seeds. They seem to be on top of the heap around here... honestly not to worried about this next grow, but, this is a last chance grow for autos and me... I need a functional medication... not a placebo.

Thanks brother, I appreciate the honest opinion. I hope everything goes better for you this next run, best of luck!

hi and welcome :pass:growing in a pc case, autos would naturally suit the space better.
autos 10 years ago were a kinda lame, they have come a long way as had led technology.
its not for the fun of growing that we use autos,it does help but its the end result we want.maybe not the huge quanities off of photos, but some of us only have a lil cupboard/pc case/speaker box to use.
good luck n keep er lit.
:pighug:

@Seshwan as arthur mentioned there are some questionable breeders around at the moment.
I can personally recommend autos from dutch passion, dinafem, sweet seeds, fastbuds and mephisto.
Some strains are generally smaller tjat others- check breeders description.
Yea growing in smaller pots will keep them smaller too.

The autoflower has taken it on the chin for a lot of years. That was then, this is now. Today's autoflower is not "your Grandma's autoflower". My decade or so of grows have been as good or better than any dispensary product that I have tried. I've never had a potency problem regardless of what the published thc percentage stated (I only buy quality Breeder seeds). Ruderalis, which is found in more extreme climates, is why I can grow plants faster and why I can grow them with my lights on around the clock. There are still a lot of people who spew bullshit about auto's, but that is mainly due to their incredible ignorance. They simply do not understand autoflowers. Doubt I will ever go back to photoperiod plants.

Hey bud...i have been whipping down plants outdoors for over 25 years and i have grown an absolute ton of photoperiod strains(generally grow a single plant 4-8 strains a season only rerunning champion strains here and there). I started to grow autos a few seasons ago(4 years now). Choose the right breeders and the pot is every bit as good as any photos. Choose the wrong ones and hmmm...lackluster indeed.

Heard all i needed to hear about 00 seeds..thanks. sucks you had to test it out to find out they lack.

Always consider the source.. It's vital when choosing an auto... Photos are a little different. Since autos are just starting to gain steam you have a number of growers calling themselves breeders, chucking pollen and selling seeds. Mephisto is most mentioned because they use proven/elite photo strains to start with, then work and test the line until its to their liking. Not many auto breeders do this.. So I say 80% has to do with the breeders we choose. I've never had crappy bud from autos.. I've also never ran suspect genetics.
