Dutch Passion Think Diff, Cindy Jack: Tangs easy sched, autopots, autocobs

You write that your temps are 23°C. Is that steady or does it drop down a bit some time? I feel 23°c is little on the low side if you are in veg, preflower. Low temps and if the girls sits in water could result in what we see here. Is there any possibilities for you to raise your temps to 25 - 25.5°C?
There is a big difference in growth and behaviour of the plants between 23°C and 25.5°C, so it could be worth a shot.
@Waira Its always a pleasure to read and learn what you have to say. I memorise it all. :toke:

Interesting. Wow, I didn't think there was much difference between 23 and 25.5. I can crank up the heater and level off at 25-26 no problem. Like you said, it could be worth a shot.

Tony from Dutch Passion had a look at the leaves and thinks it could be light stress. For the past 2 or 3 weeks (i journal things but not light changes), not exactly sure how long, I put an extra autocob on the plant so I had 110 watts of autocobs. Plus there is an 600 watt HPS above the plant too but pretty high up and not directly above it that I use more for heating since it's winter here. Light stress could explain this. And why I don't see this in the other plants, which only get one autocob each.

Lunar, the pH is 5.8? If so, then this is a lack-of type defc. most likely, but in the COB light I can't read the colors at all well, so if you can get me a normal light pic, dark/flash is fine too,... COB makes them all look pale! If it's top to bottom pale, then I'd lean toward S defc., otherwise the pattern of where it's yellow worst and first is a big clue,... this is not an N issue for sure,.... it might be early micronute defc., but not distinct enough to tell which yet,... if tops are worst off and first affected, that's the tell,.... S is the only nute that's immobile, but tends to affect the whole plant with color loss overall, tops usually the worst,... Use a micronute supplement like Earth Juice Microblast which will cover all the bases, as many of the metals are SO4 salts,... otherwise, epsoms (MgSO4) as an add-in and especially as a foliar spray can speed it in there faster,.. you still using the OverGrow? That should have stopped/prevented anything like S or Mg defc....
No set feed sched' is going to work for all strains, which is why some are fine, other's not,... also, each pot is it's own little ecosystem, combined with the variables of a different strain, can account for performance differences as well,... As for AN nutes "self-buffering", that's only really works reliably in low ppm water, and only in solution,....once in a pot, all beats are off, too many other influencing factors there,... harder water can tax, even overwhelm the pH buffering capacity of the AN solution,...

Waira, the leaf pics are normal lights. I took them in my basement. The plant shots are HPS off, but COB on.

Yes, I am still using Optic Foliar. Sometimes the full lineup of products mixed up aka Overgrow and also did an Epsom and Transport spray. So I guess that rules out micro nute issues for S and Mg right?

The AN seems to be working as advertised in the pot. Accurate 8 gives me 5.8 pH in the pot at the roots for all my plants. The good looking green ones and the pale one.

Tony from Dutch Passion things this might be light stress. I had 2 autocobs above plus partial HPS for last couple of weeks. I respect autocobs and keep them at a distance of 30 inches but with two of them maybe we are looking at light stress here. So turned off one of the lights.

It might take a few days to a week to see some change for the better.

I think you are sorted now. With the info about the lights i can see things out of a different perspective. Good call on mailing Tony, who know the plant if not the breeder

Day 58

Think Different has definitely improved her general health now. @BigSm0 had the best diagnosis for what was wrong. And maybe a couple of others called it too. But I think she was just hungry and was not able to uptake from the wicking because of the dense heavy medium in this pot. I didnt have enough perlite in it and too much biochar and EWC. Once I switched to manual top watering she slowly started to improve. She is not the prettiest girl on the block due to some aggressive LST that broke some branches. But what she does have seems to be producing some nice buds by my standards. I have spread out all the side branches to fatten their bud up.

Day 68

I put some UVB light on this over the last few days hoping it would frost up more but its not happening.
Hand watering this instead of autopot res because the medium is too dense for wicking (my fault). Using Tangs easy schedule full dose. Not sure how many days this will go so its hard to tell when to switch to water only.
I do have a good Zeiss microscope from a university lab now and will be using it to check trichomes every couple of days.

Just catching up on your grows. Looking good so far. I have been trying to find if you have been asked before but I haven’t seen it, where did you get those cutdown Autopots and what is their capacity. They look to be as small as the 8.5l smaller pots or smaller but you grow some mighty fine ladies in there. Enjoying going thru your grows. I’m ready to see you harvest something.

Thanks @HemiSync

You're boss man. I bought 2 of the standard kits with the 4 times 16 liter/4gal autopots and single res. So 8 full size pots and 2 res. I grow 6 plants at a time in an 8x8 tent. I was looking at @slowandeasy grows and really like his approach and philosophy around using small pots and air domes with lots of PSI/air and growing plants as fast as possible and not being worried about yield, just quality (and shorter grow times which can mean your total yield in a year could be more). So I cut down 6 of my 6 pots pretty much to half height. I just used a jig saw. Totally stole the idea from Slow. And I like it. Slow doesnt like the bottom feeding autopots so he thinks the only good thing about autopots is the airdomes. But I bought in to them so I'm using them, but reduced the size. And I still have 2 full size and I'll be growing the rest of my Think Differents in the full size pots I think, but all Meph plants go in the half size pots.

I'm looking forward to harvest time too. The TD will be first. Then either one or two Skywalkers. Then two Sour Livers that are looking like my best plants so far. I started growing 8 months ago for the first time and had some funky looking mutants for sure. But they worked for meds. I'm just now getting the hang of things. Once these plants are harvested in a month or so I'll pop 6 more beans at once and get on with my next grow, which I hope will be ever better. Learned a lot in the last month or so from Slow and others. Also got the Megacrop coming in next week. And ordered a couple more autocobs. Other than that, I'll stick to what I'm doing now but hopefully fine tuned to be better.

BTW, my fatality rate has been a brutal 40% so far!!!!!! Need to change that number!

One of the reasons I got the 2.2g/8.5l pots for my system was because my autos were never completely filling the coco with roots. Gee and the first thing I doo with them is grow photos. :crying:

Another way to cut down on your turn around time is to use some extra pots to prestart your next grow. If I’m trying to grow perpetually I will start some seeds in my extra pots 4 weeks before my current grow is due to be chopped. Then I do the normal hand watering with them until the harvest and out with the old girls and new ones get dropped into their trays and onto the reservoir.

I also like the one grower here, can’t remember their nick right now, that grows what they call sticks. Start a bunch in small pots, trim off all the side stuff and grow a bunch of sticks with little buds on them. They get 10-14g per stick and turn them around pretty fast. I was actually surprised when I thought about it, 10 sticks and a possible 1/4 pound. Not sure I want to grow that way but for someone with just a 2x2 grow area it would be great. I will probably be showing my closet grower friend that trick soon.
