New Grower Thiers a Hairyman in the cupboard/SourCrack/TyroneSpecial

Thanks elsamurai, ph pen ,thats a sore point i got one but its one of them cheap ones which i have read are a waste of time but i am going to give it a try, i know the water around here comes out of the tap 7.0 7,2 from a fish forum i checked out and the water board web site, the nutes are all organic so shouldn't raise it and oxygenating and leaving it to sit for 24hrs i have read all brings it down a bit, so yes i need to invest again but i am skint at the moment so just going to have to chance it for the time being.can see all you experienced growers shaking ya heads- lol sorry

Thats about the same as my starting PH and in the Bio Bizz Light mix soil have not noticed and fluctuations in PH so far using those nutes, have only tested the water going in and then runoff using the liquid drops as in the same boat and cant afford a digital tester at the moment but will get one in time along with a soil tester as it is the safest way for sure. Leaving the water sitting out will drop the PH a bit as well as evaporate chlorine, bubbling the water will raise it a bit the only time i tried it put my PH up to just over 7.5.

Some CalMg also might be needed a little further on as that seems to be one thing Bio Bizz lacks in from what i have seen.

Good to see you getting started hairyman im subbed :goodluck: and about the ph pen i have one that was a fiver and one thats over 40quid and the cheap one gives the same reading as the dearer one every time

Cheers pal, i have some calmg on order, fck its turning out to be an expensive hobby this, one of them ph soil testers is next on my shopping/wish list, but the way things are going its a long way down the rd before i get one, accurate 8 is the one every one seems to recommend.

Hey thanks sanguine, and thats good to know il'e give it a try, was thinking if they are as bad as they reckon it would fry my head and perhaps the plants if i took any action based on its readings, i need ta get a thermometer so i can make up the calibration solution ,lol fck its never ending the things ya need too get, BTW love ya set up and plants, you've done great getting past the problems you've had, gives me faith

And he's off..Good luck on the grow..Hope you don't mind,But I'm going fallow along myself..Looks like a nice setup..

Thanks:peace:

Pleased to see you getting a start Hairyman,im subbed pal.
Ive been using one of those cheap ph meters for 2 years now and it hasnt let me down yet.
It went funny once but just needed the batteries changed,i calibrate it using milk, to 6.7 and no probs.
That will save you about £2 on calibration fluid, lol.
Good luck mate.

And we're OFF!

RE: Expense - It is a little bit of a hurdle at the front, but the equipment can easily pay for itself
in the first grow :) It's just that initial outlay. What I found is that attempting to go cheap on the
instrumentation just wastes money.

An Accurate8 soil pH probe and an Oakton EcoTestr pH2 solution tester is about the cheapest
you can solve those needs and still be able to trust the data. But, WORTH 20X times their weight
in gold. :)

Good Luck HirsuteMale ;)

Yea mate read my diary a few times as a what not to do! The 40 quid ph pen has a built in thermometer too so might kill two birds there. Just ordered an accurate8 soil probe myself too. Had to order from the states. Things can get expensive but if you buy decent it should last for years

Very good,Hairy,i like the cow pic.

That's right pal,i got some powder with the kit, it needs to be done @24c for it to be accurate, but theirs only one pouch so after that i might find a cow :) some bottled waters contain the PH value on them, i wonder now if that might work as well, my wife has gone back to college and is doing sciencey things lol and has access to top notch equipment, i might send her in with samples on lab work days, its a good job i ain't on the course there would be a lot of stuff going missing, i wonder if i could get this mass spectrometer in my bag( ha ha and what would i do with it if i did)
