How long did your hang your plants? Did you check the stems each day and see if they still just bent, not cracked? From what experience I've had growing outside back in the day, you dry them until it's like a green twig that just starts to crack when you bend it. I would check the smaller stems holding the majority of the flowers. Some stems dry faster than others.
