I was thinking drain to waste the perlite would not retain moisture.
I was not aware the perlite could wick up like that , but I guess if you get good roots established you can grow in anything.

I soak mine for six hours to a day on my light and sow straight into soil

My mix is recycled biobizz light that's been composted with household bits ,tealeaf remains , bannanas, egg shells , cereals and plant waste with the addition and recharged with mychondria and stuff :shrug:

Yes, it does wick up stiggy. Remember our ghetto sip? A washout tray half filled with perlite, put the pots on top of the perlite, fill with straight water two or three inches, wicks up to keep our "water only" perfectly wet. A hellafifed way to take a few days of vaca

Top feed, going into a bottom feed, huh?.

I've done a 2-liter bottle with a hole in the side 3in up and filled with perlite and feed till it runs off. Works beatchin!!!

So this morning the house was 50 degrees. Not conducive for cracking beans. I have to make some phone calls and see the price on a heating mat.
