New Mephisto grow room quick build
Originally we planned to convert an outbuilding we have here for this run, from scratch.
However due to us being on a tight budget and time frame, we have decided to give our existing 'tent' room, a makeover.
Here is how it looked yesterday:
Electrical work has been done by us previously on this room, running a dedicated circuit into there, 2x moisture resistant double sockets have been installed and ballasts wall mounted.
Above you may notice, Uk Spec plug sockets, reason being, the equipment we came with was UK, and due to better prices in England all further equipment has been English too.
Nothing against the Spanish, we did try some of their sockets too, but the UK sourced ones were of a better quality, and when it comes to safety I'd rather not skimp on the cost.
They may need moving as we have a 6 way contactor coming soon along with additional equipment, but the fundamental work is in place already, and it will just be a case of re-mounting.
Ventilation is sorted in there, we have removed a breeze block for ventilation, and mounted a vent cover on the exterior side of the wall.
We have ordered extra equipment to expand this from a 4 light to a 6 light room. If you wanted go balls out, there is room for 9 lights quite easily, but this is a through room leading to a bigger flowering room, so easy access is needed.
Here is how it looked in the afternoon today:
This is a list of what we plan to do:
1) Damp proof all walls, then add a layer of black and white sheeting for reflectivity.
2) With more time and money, we would build a timber framed raised floor for the plants, and use chipboard covered with thick plastic sheeting.
The floor needs to be raised to separate the plants from the cold floor surface, and also in case we have sustained periods of heavy rain, this room will let some water on to the floor.
It has only happened one time in a year, but we know now that it can happen.
Our alternative idea is to use breeze blocks, and some sheets of safety glass to make little islands for each light. This should give us plenty of access for watering and plant maintenance.
3) Run two wooden beams across the ceiling, for mounting the light hangers to.
4) Run wooden beams where necessary to hang fans and filters.
At that point we should be ready to test fire the room.
If there's anything I've missed, I'll add the work into our next updates.
The total area of the room is L 505cm x W 415cm x H 247cm, the usable space for plants is approx. L 450cm x W 290cm
Cheers, Mitch
