New Grower The brewery does it doggystyle

Well I'll be dipped in shit. I came home from the salt mines today, only to discover this...

This makes it exactly 4 days since she has popped and she's already touching down to lap up some water. I must say I have a pretty good feeling about her.. [emoji190]

Welcome and good luck with this season. Have you ever tried to see how cold you could make your rez? I have known people who buy chillers just for this system. They keep their temps in the mid 60's. I run promix so I'm speculating, but there has to be a reason so many hydro growers ensure these lower temps.

Colder res temps help to keep root rot at bay. Plus the colder the water, the higher the concentration of dissolved oxygen the water will hold.

For sure. When I switched up buckets, I thought about all of that when I decided to ditch the chiller and go with the hydroguard. Chillers are expensive and I was leery about putting a hole in the round bucket compared to the flat side of a water farm. A few runs into this and there haven't been any problems with rot at all, although the lower temps would be nicer for the oxygen factor. With fall and winter coming, that should hopefully come into play alot better.

Edit: I will also add that, the max 02 method that Derek recommended also helps very well

When I switch from my little cab to a bigger tent, I plan to scrap my current res a go with individual buckets. I plan to use square 5 gal buckets so can install the chiller in them with no leaks.

Well it ended up being kind of a late night last night messing around with stuff. The coffee this morning tastes pretty good. We decided to hang this up last night for when the time comes to open and use it. Whether or not the shit works for sure, I couldn't tell you, but we figured why not..?:

Our city water sucks bad and averages around 500ppm with a pH of around 7.0 or higher. Since the city water sucks ball bags and the roots have officially touched down, we dumped the res, wiped out the slime with alcohol wipes, and added r/o water. We added: 5ml hydroguard, 3/4 of a ml each of npk, and added: 1.5ml of rapid start. The ppm came out to be 104 with a pH of 6.7, which we lowered to around 5.5 ph. To me, that's a hell of alot better than our nasty city water.
