Testing - Simple noncirculating hydroponic method

Hey phree, here's a 20L bucket I knocked up quickly this morning after being inspired by this thread.I use these buckets at work everyday and have loads of them kicking about on my back yard. iv used a 1L airpot through the lid and I can adjust the height of the pot if need be.It fits pretty snug but there's a few little gaps a can tape over to seal up.View attachment 231311View attachment 231310View attachment 231312View attachment 231313 Im gonna run something in it in my garden once I grab some synthetic nutes. What amounts of each nutrient did you go with in the res mate and did you ph it? I think I could grow for 2 weeks in the airpot before dunking it in the res.

That set up looks sweet!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Best of all - Free!

I used 50/50 veg/bloom nutes and cal mag.
The ph was 6.8 naturally, and I decided not to mess with it.

I also have the same varieties growing in 3 gallon pots of pro-mix bx with mycos as a control group. I have not shown any pics of the 3 gallons yet.
But the non-circulating hydro method is blowing the 3 gallon pots away.

These are outside totally alone and untouched. Just like they would be as an outdoor guerilla grow.
They will will either survive or die. But I will not intervene.

I was concerned about rain, and it has rained several times. It has rained at least once a week since day 1.
I thought the rain would fill my res and water down my nutes, and possibly cause root rot.
I thought about sheltering them from the rain, but that would destroy the test results.
They have to be totally independent.
So far, the plants shield most of the rain water, plus the small opening helps keep out most of the rain. Very little rain is getting in.

I will take some updated pics soon. The growth rate is accelerated compared to the 3 gallon pots.
I'm also having to water the 3 gallon pots EVERY day, except on days it rains.

Honestly, I am still surprised at how great this test is going.

Excellent mate cheers for the info  look forward to the updates

Yeah man they are powering along, that root zone is crazy & everything looks real healthy

Is the res temp not a problem when the sun heats it up and all the oxygen depletes?

I am amazed that you don't have rootrot so far.
