Tent Questions

Hi all...I didn't see anything specific on tent set ups and so forth...

So I'm going to sticky this thread for any questions and answers that you members with tents, can answer...

Also, if you have any pics of how your tent is set up, please post them...Pictures say a 1000 words...
Basically, as far as pics go, mostly looking for how yours is set up...Not so much about the plants...

Thanks for your cooperation and I hope this thread gets the attention that new tent buyers, like myself, can gain some info...:peace:

I got a 3x3x6 grow tent using a 400 watt light not air cooled I have a 240cfm inline fan that I'm planning on using for exhaust. Do I need another fan for intake or will passive air be ok

You definitely won't need a fan on intake, and you may need a speed controller while running a fan that powerful in a small tent. Once you turn it on you'll know if the sides of the tent suck in like they're trying to implode. :D

This is goin to sound noobish but i just watched a video on YouTube n I'm lost. I though passive air was air begin pulled in through the flaps at the bottom of the tent. How ever he is saying 400cfm exhaust and 240 intake no passive air intake

I don't know what's going on in that vid, but I assume the intake was added due to the exhaust fan being too powerful. Adding a speed controller would have the same effect. Here are the basics on air movement:

Find the square footage of your grow tent by multiplying LxWxH. In your case 3x3x6=54 square feet. Plants need the air recycled at least 6 times per HOUR, which in your case is a minimum 324 cubic feet of air you need to move in an hour. A 240cfm fan can theoretically move 14400cfm per hour (it's less in the real world due to a variety of factors such as friction, ducting, carbon filters, etc.). That's why I mentioned the sides of the tent sucking in due to negative pressure. If this happens, you can equalize that pressure by either adding an intake fan to offset the high powered outtake, or slowing down the outtake until it's only moving as much air as you need.

I run a 40sf tent with a 90cfm fan & carbon filter, and I get a slight amount of negative pressure, which is OK. But I also run T5 lights so I don't have to move as much air as someone who uses HID lighting.

I'm going to be exhausting in my room will that effect anything I cannot exhaust outside

Yes, it will...Your hot exhaust air will be pulled back into the tent and cause heat problems....Unless you have a way of keeping the ambient air cooler...I'm venting outside and have a window A/C unit that I can't use until the outside temps. hit 60 degrees...But I'm having heat issues and it's best for me, to wait till summer to really be able to utilize my tent with cooler ambient air...
What I'm doing now, is keeping the outside, cooler air, coming into my entire upstairs, by way of opening up a couple of windows and I put a box fan in front of the grow room door to pull in the cooler air in. It's working, but like I said, I think this spring will be a better time for me...

Good luck...

I have heard about some growers here using those I do believe. I know gothamhydro is good to go and that tent looks badass and the price is awesome too. Great features and price for that size. And yes that would be fine for one Blackstar but even better with two :D

I would have to agree with squidherb here...Looks like a nice tent...Go for it....

I would at the least use some cfl side lighting with just one blackstar in that tent. Where the power of those little led units comes from is from the reflection in the tent. One 240 covers a 2x2 tent perfectly.
