Tent question

So I'm doing my first grow with two auto strains 1 purple punch and 1 dark devil. I was just going to have them grow in my garage just out in the open with one 450w vioarspectra light on them, until my wife shut it down with worries of kids/people judging. So now I have them in my man cave out in the open, with the plan that I told my wife that I'll move them outside when they start to stink. Now wanting to get the most out of them I'm thinking a small tent but all I see is 60" hight max, it worries me that that isnt tall enough especially when i should maintain 24" from my light plus the 12" from the mesh pot that only leaves 24" for the plant. What do you guys think? Need some options, I did see some that were 80" tall but not one that were 48"L×24"W that would probably be my max size

A tall tent aint the only solution. May I suggest you search for topping / LST / HST / Super cropping etc here on AFN.

There are a variety of methods to manage the height of the plants in ways that not only wont damage yield but will potentially increase it.

I have looked into topping and then potentially the tie down method, but obviously with autos there is a time limitation, and I guess even when they do get bigger I could always bend and spread. Just nervous is all, first auto/indoor grow

hey @actionjackson512003 and to afn! u do have a couple optionz if there'z height restrictionz i know, cuz me dealin with the same basic size meself with an old metal clozet, lol...exactly 48" from floor to bottom of light, and light can't go no higher, lol...the bigger one is on day 33, so me have yet to see just what that may or may not end up meaning, lol, but with a little lst & a lotta trimmin, she'z at 9" so far & bushy as fuck, haha...it'z kind of an experiment i've been doin, but so far, i've kept em both just a wee bit closer to the lightz than probly most would, but it'z helped em keep a nice short & squat stature, which fitz the bill perfectly for me...but another part of the equation is keepin good air flow/exhaust to keep the heat from the light from cauzing any stress and then, there'z alwayz the option of topping, which i thought about doin at first, but have decided not to...anyhoo, that'z a couple optionz & me sure otherz will chime in

Gorilla Tents aren't cheap but you can use and abuse them for years and you'll never regret buying a good tent. That said, although the light isn't good for your eyes and it's good to have walls to reflect light back at the plant, plants can be grown in an open room and if you have moving air the smell is really hard to notice … I've grown in a corner w/ 2 4'x4' panels of white Masonite for reflection … or one 2x4 and one 4x4 … the Masonite costs less than 20 bucks . With a tent you'll need an exhaust fan .

The shorty with it's extension is 5'8" … if you're tall get a taller tent if you can ….

Only on my 3rd grow so an expert I certainly am not. I've gone through the same emotions thinking that I'm abusing the plant and yield will suffer. Necessity forced my hand due to plant size and structure relative to a 5' 8" high tent. I even supercropped the main colas 2 days ago [at day 52!] and immediately felt the pangs of regret. Thankfully my learned friends here at AFN were on hand with reassurance based on actual experience. That's the thing here.......so much knowledge to tap into and chances are your issues will have been faced by many a grower.

As said no question too daft - be patient and help will come!

a tent is always a good idea it keeps everything contained and your viperspectra is a ok light ive grown great plants under a 600w one a while ago

I second that. I'm very happy with my Shorty though with its included extension it measures 5'8" I believe. [You can purchase an additional extension which increases height to 7'8" - if you use both extensions you can have an 8'5" high tent!]

Regarding the Gorilla tent, I disagree with the earlier post. I had one and it was a pain in the butt for costing so much. Sewing, zippers, pinholes. Stick to the cheaper tents. All zippers blow at some point.
