New Grower Teach me something!!

@St. Tom
PH to 5.8 correct?
I have read that MaxiBloom has calcium and magnesium. That cal mag can be avoided if PH is increased to just over 6. But then that contradicts a whole bunch of other stuff. I guess specifically, If anyone has done the Lucas formula, do I just throw out maxigrow? @Mañ'O'Green
You had me worried lol. Thank you though that is exactly what I’m looking for.
my regular water is well water, high in iron.I’m going to ask which you think is better, and then you say get a ppm right?

@St. Tom @Overkillbill I have grown indoor cannabis in organic live soil, Miricle grow soil, aeroponics, DWC, and rock wool with percission drip to waste but not coco. I know it is just a form of hydroponics but it has it's little tweaks.

i sent you a pm about the Lucas formula but somewhere along the way in coco you will need calmag but you could just leave that out till you see a need for it all my plants under the sanlights need calmag but also your water may have lots in it in my tap water is soft water so is like ro water has next to no calcium in i believe anyhow good luck with your growing adventure

Do not throw out the MaxiGrow it has a higher Nitrogen content that is needed in veg then you switch to MaxiBloom in flower. IMPO it is best to use ONE nutrient vendor and use ALL of the products in their basic plan. These nutrient companies spend millions of dollars designing these products to work together. Take advantage of that. The balance of nutrients is vital to quality growth. It is very complex indeed. Here is a couple of charts that stress that idea.

If you are chemically advanced enough to totally understand all of these interactions then you can mix and match vendor products. I am not there yet.

Oh boy. I’m no Walter white lmao.
At what point do I start to water until run off? @St. Tom

Oops I forgot to talk about your water. Yes you need an EC meter (not TDS). It is not too expensive to have a water analysis done on your well water. A little extra iron is not as bad as aluminum but can still become toxic. Do you grow any houseplants with it? how about your outdoor garden?

I know you are on a budget but good tools will pay for themselves in a short period. I lost 6 - 8 week old plants due to a faulty PH pen. I don't sell but the value of the six plants would have been about $3K so $150 tool is a sound investment. You cannot do it all at once just make it a goal to do better. That is all I do!

I'm on my first grow. I flushed my coco coir 3 times till the runoff water wasn't dark. Then flushed with boiling water to limit pests. Then used heavy dose of calmag sitting saturated for 24 hours. About 10ml per gal. Let the mix dry 80% and planted pre germinated seeds. I used 30/70 perlite to coco mix. Wish I had done 40/60. So far success.

i told you he knows his stuff hed make a great teacher :bighug: anyhow off to bed i will keep popping back @Overkillbill

Hey @Mañ'O'Green
The chart you posted for GH shows PPM. So that would mean a TDS. Do you see a benefit in using EC over a TDS. It looks like there are simple conversions. I got a little lost
Imo if it's a good one it should do both ect and tds. Also I mix different nute brands but the posts before are correct and it's taken a while to get the results I want, testing ur run off if u can will save u a lot of headaches do it once a week or so. As seedlings I like to give them 60ml to 100ml and I feed @ day 3 or 4 @ 200ppm and keep it there for a bit till I see real leaves then I bump to 300ppm I always feed @ 6.0ph I've found that works best for me but ur biggest tool is a pen and paper right down way u do so you can look back to see wat works it's also great to track growth characteristic yields ect if u ever need something just pm or tag me bud that's one reason I'm on here is to give back things I've learned sending u good grow vibes and karma ur way
