Sweet Seeds - Sweet Skunk (fem) - Grow Journal - COCO - CFL - Budget

Greetings Auto growers:tiphat:, this is my first grow . This journal will be for the 5 gallon pots only. 24/0 light cycle, although for a week it was 20/4, will switch back when flowering. I've made a few mistakes so far which seem to have put me back a few days of growth:Stones slap:. For starters I thought I could grow COCO just like soil instead of hydro. Furthermore from the start I was taking inaccurate measurements of soil and water pH (using worthless soil pH/light/moisture combo meters and liquid drops for pH), this negligence lasted from 9/25 - 10/3 (8 days after emergence from the medium). I also didn't put the medium high enough in the pot causing the plants to sink while the coco settles. There was also a time I found my lights moved down pretty low and might have effected growth for a day from the high heat. Last but not least on 9/28 the day I found out I'm suppose to treat coco like hydro I panicked and fed the seedlings 33% solution of Pro Grow, slightly burning the seedlings. On 10/3 I got a good quality pH and TDS meter, and that's when things started to turn for the better.

Setup:

3x3x4.5h Room

(4) 23w 1600 lumen CFLs (per plant, 8 total), Consisting of (1) 2700k

(2)6500k (1)5000k. Will switch the (2)6500k to 2700k, during flowering. They are currently hanging 3 inches from the plants.

4inch duct blowing from air conditioner

Powerful fan pushing some air out(of cracks) doubling as foliage movement fan, will add another fan for ventilation when at flowering (if I get there).

Hood made from cardboard , gorilla tape and Mylar blanket

Medium:

Burpee Organic Seed Starting Mix (95% coconut fiber, perlite, humates and fertilizer derived from aerobically composted turkey litter and hydrolyzed feather meal)( .06-.03-.03) Mixed 60quarts with 8 Quarts MG Perlite(0.04 - 0.01 - 0.06). Placed in 5gal pots and poured a gallon of distilled water over it until it drained.

Nutrients:

Botanicare Pro Grow (For Coco) 3-2-4 1%cal .5%mag

Botanicare Pro Bloom (For Hydro gardens)2-3-5 1%cal .5%mag... Says not to use it for CoCo but to use the one made for Soil instead but it's what I have.

Canna Rhizotonic (only started using on 10/2 or 7 days after leaves showing, reason: didn't know how magical it was)

Epsom Salt

Water Original ph 8.0 with 80ppm salts. Adjusted to 5.6 after 10/3

Day by Day

9/21 soaked two seeds in distilled water

9/22 put into paper towel

9/23 planted into 5 gallon pots, watered

9/25 Broke surface, watered around 7.5+ pH

9/26 1 Inch in height , watered

From 9/27-10/1 I watered and saw almost no growth Leaves getting lighter and lighter
CAM00145.jpgCAM00143.jpg

10/2 Started spraying with Rhizotonic as well as watered with Rhizotonic (mixed it like instructions stated) , Still wrong pH

10/3 Got meters pH'd water to 5.6 fed 200ppm of Pro Grow to both plants runoff was 900ppm. PH on 1 plant was .2 lower and .1 higher on other.

10/4 Foliage feeding with Rhizo and Epsom saltx5, still no growth

10/5 Foliage feeding x5, slight growth , but almost none
CAM00154.jpgCAM00150.jpg

10/6 Foliage feedingx5, stems seem less purple almost no growth

10/7 Watered with 300ppm solution run off at 800ppm

10/08 Foliar spray of Rhizotonic x5, some growth from 2nd set of leaves, some recovery visible.

10/09 Foliar Spraying x9

10/10 Foliar Spraying x9

This plant has some weird color on it anyone know what it is?
I also poked my knife on the bottom of the pots and it came out completely wet, I'm making more holes for better drainage and put a shop vac up to them to suck the water out. I don't think ill use pots this big for plants that stay under 90cm again.
Although I didnt really have holes I had knife stabs slits for the most part. But im fixing that.

I don't smell any rot, I might have got lucky. When I put the shop vac to the new holes I made on the sides, I can hold 1/4 inch away for 2 minutes and see a stream of water rushing out.

Just came into 500 buckets, Woot Woot.. Shopping for a LED . The plants look 15-20% bigger since yesterday , but I still feel from others posts they are half to a third the size they should be. Already dreaming about my next grow :) Gonna pop 2 widow skunk beans (reg) and a fem Cotton Candy in three to four weeks (non auto) but I feel good here so Ill post the journals in the Photo section. If anyone can recommend any other food to add to what I'm using id appreciate it.

Hey I'm catching up on ya here and curious. Is the plant in the lower pic still looking a little off?

No, it looked like it had some purple on it. But its all green now and an 3/4 inch taller. And the leaves look much straighter.

OK good. No worries then. If you don't rinse that burpee it can burn and/or stunt seedlings. Looks like your OK now.

My a/c broke today, and I had to put my girls outside. its 85 out there, but would be 90+ in the grow room. My thermometer says its 95 outside but i think because its black and absorbing the sun its putting it off.
