Just got my two new Blackstar 240s hooked up Monday and depending on how they do, I'm thinking of turning a small spare bedroom into a grow room. The room is 8 x 12'. I'm thinking of having a walkway down the middle and on each side of it, a 3 x 10' hydro setup, each side capable of supporting about 10 plants. This is going to be a joint project with a friend who is pretty cashed up, so money shouldn't be an issue. I've grown in soil and soil less, indoors and out, but have never grown hydro. I'd be very interested in hearing from you guys as far as what would be the best type of hydro setup for this room.

To be honest its not as simple as that some are harder to use than others some have better growth rates some require large amounts of media. I have built a few systems and it can be a pain. With soiless experience it will help you.
easier systems will include ebb and flow, auto pot and wick
the hardest aeroponics followed by nft ,dwc and drip which are also the fastest in that order

Oh shit! Muddy going hydro :D

If and when I try it, bubbleponics would be my first pick 2nd pick would probally be ebb and flow. Good luck and keep us posted what you go with.

actually my friend your not far from hydro now if your using soil less promix...if i didnt have city water this is how i wanted to acclimate myself to hydro. i would do a coco grow w/ sunshine coco coir (its listed on there product page) w/ fiber pots eg: sm/pots. i would do a self watering pour to waste in 3gal sm/pots. i really want an aeroponic system or better yet a fogger mist sytem but i thought it best to become familar w/ the most forgiving system first, dont want to ruin any plants thats fosho...

so glad to see you leaning this way, been waitin for it....hahaha

Thanks CB. I'm more inclined to build a system rather than buy an off the shelf one but I'll certainly check those out.

Hey Muddy check these out http://www.thehydrosource.com/Hydroponic_Systems

Lots of different sizes to fit your needs :peace:

Maybe, my friend is supposed to come over in a while to discuss it further.

My other two areas just don't lend themselves to hydro which is why I've never gotten into it before. I'll have to include a filtering system for my water as well. I'm not too concerned about the actual growing aspects, more with just getting a good system in place.

My girl is always surprised with how fast a problem can show it's head in my aero system. I'm going to start making a switch to buckets for canna and keep my aero running for the other herbs and spices I grow for natural food stores around, as I do love it, but am enthralled with DWC lately. I've got one photo Amnesia in a bucket right now to see how it goes, and will be adding 10 more buckets this week for some autos. I figure hydro is like cooking. If you can follow a recipe, you've got a good chance at success. Then, you can start adding things like potassium supplementation, etc.

For a room that size I would opt for a central rez system. RDWC or Ebb n flow.
Are you going to fill the room in 1 shot?

You just weren't satisfied with the monster plants you had already, eh? :p I'm more of a fan of RDWC over Ebb & Flow. If I had the space, I'd be all over a nice RDWC set up. You're willing to build your own and you seem to be a very intelligent dude otherwise I wouldn't recommend this - but check out OgreSeeker's RDWC controller bucket tutorial here; https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=92963 - it's quite technical, but after you have that, just set up the plumbing of your other buckets and you'll be good to go. I've seen MONSTROUS results on forums and even from a buddy of mine, but never did it myself - it's a little overwhelming to do it as is but to scale it down to fit my current space I'm just terrified, haha. I'm assuming this is for photos instead of AFs?

No, going to start out with a smaller system to learn on while still growing in pots. Got a line on a used system tonight and waiting for more info on it.
