Starting year 2 with some photos but popped a Strawberry Nuggets x Livers Bx1 freebie bean from Mephisto Genetics


Genetics: Strawberry Nuggets x Livers Bx1 (Mephisto Genetics)

Medium: Fox Farms Cultivation Nation (70% coco, 30% perlite) with a small layer of LECA clay pebbles in the bottle of pots. Dynomyco added throughout medium prior to transplant and into transplant hole during potting.

Space: 2x2x4’ CoolGrows tent…on my fourth cycle with this cheap tent, almost at end of life but worth the price for a beginner. But i’d have rather saved a little more and got a better tent.

Lighting: Bloomspect SL600 (early veg) and SS1000 (mid to late veg), HLG Rspec 100 (flower). Side (vertical lighting) with two T5HO 24” fixtures interchanging 6500K, 3000K, PureUV, and 10,000K Finisher bulbs as appropriate during cycle. RapidLED far and near red pucks for flower initiation.

Nutes: Gen Hydro MaxiGro, MaxiBloom, BioRoot, and CALiMAGic. Advanced Nutrients Nirvana, Overdrive, Big Bud, and Bud Candy. Bloom City Silica Boost and Humic Acid. And the new addition i’m excited about…Bud Buster Pro.

Started soaking a bean on 10/25/22 for 18 hours

Then into a moist paper towel on a heat mat set to 79 F. After 24 hours she took off!

Had to split open a Rapid Rooter cube (pre-soaked in dilute BioRoot solution) to fit her - far right. The two left are the photo babies and I prep a fourth “blank” cube that gets the temperature probe controlling the heat mat. Then the tray goes on the mat in the dark up to 24 hrs and then I start the first lights on. THIS GIRL WILL BE ON THE PHOTOPERIOD’S SCHEDULE

After the dark period she was already out and searching for light!

After bathing in some light…had the SL600 at 40% two feet above. Misted the dome and left a small air hole open.

Transplanted at the start of the second light cycle. Would normally root for 3-5 days but since it’s a small pot (just bigger than a Solo cup) I wanted to get her in early.

She’s almost 7 days old, see y’all then!

Lights are up to 18.5/5.5
SL600 @ 100%, 20” above the photos (about 24” above SNL)
Day: 80-82 F, 70% RH
Night: 70 F, 65-68% RH

The baby pot (reused nursery pot, pretty much a Solo cup grow) Strawberry Nuggets x Livers (SNL for shits n giggles) is going strong and a day ahead of her photo tent mates. Weird little burn that’s been on the first leaf, keeping a hand (cotyledon) on her hip. She’s a funny lil thang

Day 14
A lot going on in this little tent right now.
Lighting is ramped up to 20.5/3.5 (on/off)
SL600 @ 100%, 24” above the photos…going to be swapping the Bloomspect SL600 for the SS1000. Added in 1 T5HO 6500K bulb, and the Far Red / Deep Red pucks…they’re at 5 minutes before/after lights on (10 min total) and same at lights off.
Day: 80-82 F, 70% RH
Night: 71 F, 65-68% RH

Been learning this coco + perlite only medium, I took “can’t overwater to heart” and was watering too frequently…think i’ve adapted now. She got her first Bud Buster Pro foliar spray right after the last update, and has also gotten her weekly silica boost, bi-monthly humic acid, half strength MaxiGro, kelp (BioRoot), CALiMAGic, and some sugars (half dose Bud Candy). Kelp and sugars mostly for the microbes, rest for the plant. She’s really hitting her stride now though I think!

I like that name The wife usually names them, she’s late to the party this run

My mind goes too crazy LOL! Top three crossed my mind were

1. Rosy Livers
2. Gary Strawberry - not a major baseball fan, but I do remember Darryl Strawberry (Nuggets) and Gary Sheffield (Blues) growing up. Yeah, that’s my mind at work.
3. Due to her SNL abbreviation it’s only fitting to call this little b#+<h Pete Davidson.

Day 21 (really taken more towards D22 so pic labels are accurate)
Passed the “solstice” (ramped from 18/6 at sprout to 20.5/3.5 over the first three weeks) and ramping down towards 12/12 for the photoperiods while lowering the light as the days get shorter. Currently at 19/5 with the Bloomspect SS1000 22” above, added in the second T5HO Sunblaster 6500K bulb for vertical supplemental lighting.

Still adjusting to my first coco/perlite only grow, hit a Cal and likely N deficiency from a couple water only feeds…was looking a little beat up. She got a full dose of MaxiGro and CalMag and has responded well overnight…getting darker color in the leafs already but ugly spots showing. She’s getting a weekly silica feed, then the base nutes (MaxiGro + CalMag) next feed, and CalMag + BioRoot (and sometimes low dose Bud Candy) in between…rinse and repeat but add in humic acid every other week and Bud Buster Pro foliar every 8 days and methinks things are going in the right directions. Feeding smaller volumes multiple times a day helps with the small pot sizes.

Started some LST to get some side branches popping
