State of AFN (2020)

Actually, the OOPS error has gotten worse! I can't leave a page for more than 5 minutes now. And if I have multiple tabs of AFN, it eventually locks up the browser ( pick one... doesn't matter ) and if I can't get the browser to quit, it locks up my computer! I've had it come up today as I was typing!

PLEASE make this a priority fix!

Keeping everyone in the loop, we had technicians working on the site and server over the weekend and they found a good chunk of things that, were in fact, not quite correctly configured.

I've been given a list of suggestions of things to do/try on our end on top of the config settings that were changed; I've been working on the list here the past few days.

We're still hammering out what's causing some latency on the site when we turn Cloudflare down (the tech thinks he knows what it is, but we're going back and forth on it at the moment, we're thinking something is not communicating correctly with one of our add-on's, and it's causing some issues with Cloudflare (giving the oops error on timeout.) With Cloudflare turned on/up, the site is the FASTEST I think I have ever seen it. Ever.

So we'll continue hammering on that, but hopefully some of you are seeing a faster, more responsive site. I wish I could say the "oops" error was 100% eliminated but we're making a good deal of progress, so let's keep on keeping on.

And thank you again to all of you, whether you donated or not, to help keep the energy of the site going. Been a few times we just wanted to throw in the towel over this frustrating ordeal but some of you won't let us quit lol, so.... we really appreciate that. And now we're finally seeing some positive results.

Sorry, but someone had to give you the news....... I'd come in to help if I could! And I've been there and I know for a fact, there is no such thing as computer science, you need VOODOO skills sometimes..............

Keep up the good work, and geterdone... I can't grow my contest plants on that "other" forum!

I am fairly new to the site, and I just wanted to thank everyone who donated and @Son of Hobbes for getting the work done I love this website and hope to be part of the family here! Fyi from my end the website is running nice and smooth I like the new layout as well..

here's an example. I ran a computer business before I retired. We had a small network within the store, including a showroom with 6 computers networked and with internet. We let foreign exchange students who worked summer jobs locally use the internet for free so they could talk to folks back home.
We came in one Monday more and the network was down, couldn't see any pc on the network, could only access the internet by connecting one pc to the cable modem. We tried everything, I even called a friend who was a network engineer. Explained what we did. They said other than hardware, he had no answer. Just before the end of the day, I said to my partner, I'm going to try something that's probably foolish. I went into all computers in the store, 9 I believe, and changed the workgroup name...............POOF all good again! Just for giggles, a week later, I changed it back to the previous name, worked just fine and never happened again! When I told my friend, he was baffled, said he'd never heard of such a thing!

And it wasn't an infection, all public access pcs were locked down tight you could surf the net and use Yahoo messenger that's it. No downloading or uploading . And we had corporate antivirus that scanned all pcs with a full scan every night.

seems to be working ok for me. I do get the reload page script if I walk away for 5 min or so.

Got 1 oops this afternoon on the pc, but seems stable on my Android :thumbsup:

@Son of Hobbes

Is there any value in opening a new thread for us to post Errors during the sites improvements?
Alittle feedback to the techs might point them in a desired direction?
