Do you think the different light spectrums are necessary or could you just use one Vero at 3500k and run it at around 100 watts per plant and be successful?
Hey there @BISCUITS I do not have ppfd readings, I would love to take some but I do not have the sensors.
I do not think it is required to have the different light spectrums that I have employed here -- These are just the spectrums that I have ended up with over the years to this point... I started out in a 2' x 4' x 5' with 1 waterfarm and a Blackstar 240 LED (chinese blurple) and then added a second Blackstar 240.... and then a second waterfarm... and then a new tent... and more waterfarms... and more lights... lol
I started with the COBs when the Vero29 (version 2) came out (I think they are on version 3 now), and found a company that sold me the 4 that I have now (2 @ 3000K and 2 @ 4000K). Right now it seems that 3500K is pretty much the desired / best selling 'all around' growth cycle spectrum with COBs, and that is the spectrum I ordered when I added more COBs (the CREE 3590s and the CitizenCLU048s)
most schools of thought promote more 'blue' light during veg and more 'red' light during flower
but I hear you, ultimately a grower has to find what works best for their circumstances and rock it! Nothing like your own real world experience!
I use my 'bluest' 4000K light for veg (wish I had a 5000K... and I do find that my old Blackstar 'blurples' veg like AMAZING -- but I am trying to retire them so I no longer use them) and then add in the others in order of increasing amounts of 'red' light as I go (more 4000K then 3500K and lastly 3000K)
I switched over to hps full cycle after growing autos for a few years.I did a few grows with different spectrums running the same Mephisto strains and the all hps grows were always the biggest and highest yielding plants. Then to top it off I spoke with Mitch and learned that's how they do it as well. But like you said @water farm you have to find what works best for you cuz really you could use any spectrum from 2000k to 6500k and still get good results.
