Lighting Some things in mind for a DIY COB build

Well, I placed my order:

6 x Vero 29SE 3500K 80CRI
1 x Mean Well HLG-240H-C1050B
6 x heatsinks
6 x thermal pads

I'll start putting it together in the next week or two after the next paycheck since I blew my budget :oops1: like I knew I would. I'll probably be using 1/8" aluminum "L" metal, riveted together. I'm thinking 10" to 12" spacing for the COB's unless someone else has a better idea of spacing. Looks like it's going to be 6 x ~36v x 1.05 amp = ~225 watts.
Two of these should be pretty good for my recreational grow. Now... the waiting... I should be pretty good at it by now.

Thank you for all the help everyone! @BigSm0 @Slater @iampepe @wwwillie :smokeout:

tell me to shut up if you've thought of this but I can recommend single core hook up wire for the cobs holders... other hook up wire you got to solder the ends to get them into the holders, if those holders are like to BGB ones... saves you a good hour and your plugged in with-in minutes.

On the edge of my seat for the build now.

Lay on the knowledge! I'm all ears. I do plan on soldering the connection from the driver to the COB's wires and from the power to the driver, though.

The nice thing about these Vero 29 SE's is that they come built in their own holder rated at 500v with "poke-in" type connectors, so they save some pieces/time during assembly:

Next paycheck I'll be picking up these:

Also the angled aluminum, plugs, and wire so your advice is perfectly timed!

Well, actually, you've got a problem. You can't wire 6 of them in series using BJB COB holders, they are only rated for 150 volts. The Ideal COB holders are rated 250 I believe, and would work for you.
18 or 20 gauge solid wire works great, 20 gauge is easier to find.

No worries, the Vero 29 SE that I got have a built in holder rated at 500v with poke-in connectors. Thanks for checking!

I haven't had good success with soldering wires before inserting them into these type connectors. Solid core is probably the best but if it's not an option I just push them straight in without twisting them. It takes an aweful lot of force to pull out a well set wire. Even safer if the wire is anchored close to the holder. The shorter the span is the better.

Yes, I definitely want to do solid core in between the COB's. Thanks!

Sod soldering, that's a bad habit I'm trying to give up and so should you ;) ... wago connectors all the way, you will never look back

Wago's are super nice.

@Z_Bop Are you documenting your build on here? Looking forward to seeing your cobs in action.
