How does that setup work? I want to run a solo dwc but I know I wont be able to keep the roots in the initial cup
I cut slits with a razor blade, spaced all around the main cup so water goes in and out fairly quick, I set the maximum water depth with the skewers so it is just at rockwool height. Then put that cup down into another that has several drain holes around it but not as many, to hold water longer but let it slowly drain out. That goes inside the bottom cup with only one drain hole at the bottom so it can all clear out in about ten minutes or less.

water goes on and fills all cups and gets the rockwool wicking it up, for about ten minutes. then water goes off, and it drains out a few minutes, and the plant sits and enjoys the open air for twenty minutes. And I don't have to water them, just monitor the gear and nutrition..

the air pump is not necessary, it gets air during the ebb cycle, but it can't hurt to have more o2 in the system. The roots air pruned last time, except for a small spot where they broke the cup a bit and there were a couple tablespoons worth of root out of the cup.
