I have ran enough of these to tell you the only way roots are not coming out is if you screen the shit out of it. That did not even work for me last year I just trimmed the roots when they poked out every now and then. I think people are just going to far with this your roots are coming out of the cup. As I understood it originally the spirit of the rule is so some one does not just fill the cup with hydroton and shred the cup up and drop it in a DWC and get a normal size plant. Have people take full cup pictures and trim the roots. Let's not over complicate a really cool contest. I think the best part of this is it is on a small scale and people can experiment and try new things that can improve thier skills in the long run.

I am sure @Renaissance Redneck can correct me if I am wrong.
Well said I agree 100% I'm a new grower and this shits cool and I don't care how big your root is!!!! Hahaha in all Honesty I want to see what your plant looks like at day 60+ ✌️

I'm pretty sure calling a dq on someones roots hanging out of the cup is more playful than it is serious. In pretty sure we are all in the same spirit to where if a root happens to come out which it will we will let it slide unless it starts to become a huge mass. I personally just rub the tip of the root that's coning out on the edge of the drain hole then ill take a pen or something and try to redirect the new growth into the cup.

Good luck everyone. Update coming tonight
I know most of it is joking. I just know some people will not take it that way. There are what 50 some odd people in this competition, it can create some confusion. I was trying to clarify for those that wont ask questions or were not sure.

What is the best way to trim the roots then mate? Do i literally just trim them as they start poking out or what?

They really should not poke out much. Like @Free Flow said you can try to push it back in. A lot of time though it is tapered and already air pruned so I usually clip them. Never really had any problems problems doing it that way. They are not really going to be that big.

Looking good mine is in the root mode now takes about a week in a small cup or something for them to get going good..
