I know its not the roots bro I'm just saying, your aloud to snip your roots even thou the root mass must stay inside the cup lol I might just transplant my solo into a 12L pot because this contest ain't fair lol
Is there a way you see that could make this more fair? For future endeavors
Constructive criticisms are fine.

I think it would be good for people to take a picture of the bottoms of the cup more often (especially hydro), because if there's no soil those roots grow long.. & at some point those roots will grow out the bottom of the cup & people can easily trim so they don't get disqualified, I'm not against hydro no way.. Unless anybody else has any suggestions, I'm just trying make it enjoyable, it would be good if you had 2 separate ones, a hydro contest & a soil contest because you cant compare hydro's way up there, no disrespect to anyone :)

One way would be to have a category for hydro, and for soils. But honestly, it's fair. The roots stay inside the cup. We have all seen plant trays that have fully filled their space with roots and start to curl around the bottom of the pot. I have had many a dirt pot put roots into the ground where it sat.

I think the biggest advantage mine has is actually access to air. There is more space in my cup, and it's all air spaces instead of soil spaces. The water is scheduled on 30 min, off 90 minutes at the moment. So it holds a water membrane on the roots and rockwool for 90 minutes and has mad air access at all times.

I think they both have their advantaged and disadvantages. We all know hydro can produce faster , bigger plants. But we also know hydro is a completely different animal when it comes to care. Roots popping out in from solo seems to be inevitable , soil or hydro. I chose hydro because I've never done it...and I like problem solving. I don't care if I win, I just want to see if I can do it and learn on the way. Also, I Am just following the guidelines set forth at the moment. My opinion is its all the same..each grow has checks and balance and it all evens out.

Im not opposed to requesting a cup bottom pic.
And you can also tell if the roots were really in or out of the cup. If they stay in. You will see a root bound root ball. Wrapping around cup.

If cut roots. We will see roots go to cup and cut off instead of curl and wrap.

But i do understand what you mean. Which is also why its a beauty contest and not a size contest. I feel you though some of these dwc set ups can be a bit intimidating.

i think the main issue with this kinda stems down from the its not really a 'competition'...so hydro is going to be killer when compared to soil we all know it but i like the fact its light hearted and there's not too many rules or regulations or different divisions...also i think when voting comes into play people will take the differences in setups into account...i know if i see a soil plant get a half oz i will be giving them my vote over a 1-2 ounc hydro setup!
