I posted a few weeks back regarding problems I was having. After consulting with the helpful peps at AN it was decided that I was using too much Perlite. There was also a possibility that my soil was bad. I guess FF Ocean Forest sometimes has PH issues. My runoff was between around 4.5 - 5.0 after adding 7.0 water. So I started new. This time I did 2 plants with 20% Perlite added to Ocean Forest with some pulverized lime and 2 plants that were straight Ocean Forest. Some of my symptoms haven't returned (red stems, rust spots) and my runoff is perfect in the 2 plants that I added the lime. However, my plants are still getting their butts kicked by something. I posted pictures. At first it looks like nitrogen def. The leaves just start to yellow at week 4 or 5. It starts with older leaves. Then it spreads quickly. They dry, curl upward and twist until they are totally dead. Another symptom is that the plants have a rotten odor. It was so bad with my last 2 that I had to kill them because they were overpowering my air filter. I've tried flushing but it doesn't help. I was supprised it happened even when my soil PH is fine. My question: what can cause this if it isn't nutrient lock caused by bad PH? It's happening to almost every plant. Any ideas?

Plants: AKR
Soil: FF Ocean Forest W/Perlite added
Nutrients: FF Trio, Molasses (Sometimes)
Water: Distilled
Lights: 400 HPS, 200 Daylight
Pots: 3 Gallon

Get rid of the yellow leaves, somtimes older bottom leaves do this.It also could be nitrogen def or potasium def. Give them a little nit nutes and some cal-mag and hope that helps.

Sounds like a mag def witch usually kicks in around 5th week if neglected a hit of Epson salts or a calmag nute at week 3-4 should help, as of smell not sure on that one but im sure some one will have some advice for ya! :)

I hate to say this bro but prepare yourself for the worse. I just had the same trouble and lost 10 plants to this crap. I use ffof also and have had good luck with it,in fact this grow was 6.4 right out of the bag and didn't need any lime amendment. I also use the ff trio and they all appeared healthy and happy until day 40 and then the yellowing came on with a vengeance. I tried flushing even tho the ph was good and then giving them light nutes and they only got worse. I didn't have the rotten smell your talking about but the yellow went from top to bottom in a matter of a few days. I lost all 10 of a new cross in a week. I also tried the epsom salt foliar spray and adding a little calmag and it didn't work for me. I wish i could help you, hope you make out better then i did. Maybe one of the guys here can help you out.

hey Peek,

No sweat man, first off let me say it's ok you did the flush, it doesn't hurt to wash your roots every month as it cleans the soil from salt accumulation. But then you need to replenish the soil with nutes you washed away with the salts, in a proper quantity for your current life cycle phase. It looks like vertical growth as stoped and your in full flowering phase, yeah? so I supose you already replenished or are about to replenish the soil according with the FF feeding chart.

some plants have bigger needs and others lower. that's why this charts are aiming for the average plants. You should try to increase your dosage on your "micro" and on your veg aswell, try this if you still have at least 3 weeks ahead: 1 week for results, 1 week for possible changes if needed, and the last one for flush.

You need to remove the dried leafs because they're doing nothing but stoping air flow and making your grow look dirty and generally not clean :)

epsom salts and cal/mag are a growers usefull tool

Hope it helps,

Hugo has given you some good information, I would follow his advice. You probably weren't feeding them enough in veg, plus maybe a bit of a cal/mag deficiency. They look like they could have used a bit more nitrogen. What strength veg nutes did you use?

Keep your pH in line and adjust your feed as Hugo suggested and you should still be able to have a nice harvest.

I was about to say, excellent advice Hugo!

Just so this isn't confusing I want to point out that the plants in the pics (plants 6 & 7) are already dead. Those are the ones that smelled like corpse plants. I have two more that are so beaten down I might also kill them. They all look the same so I used the pics that were already on my computer.

With my current plants (plants 7 & 8) that presented symptoms at week 5. I started veg nuts at week 2. I'm pretty sure this was too much, too early because the plants were getting that dark green/bluish color and also the leaf tips hooked down. So I stopped nuts on day 23 and waited until "the plants told me what they wanted". The color didn't lighten up until week 5 which is when I started with nuts again. I guess I completely got that all basakwards.

I just checked my journal for the plants that are shown in the pics (6 & 7). I gave them cal/mag on day 37 and it looks like they got symptoms later than I thought, (around day 45). I did foliar feeding with Epsom salt prior to getting the cal/mag. I also started with molasses about the time they started showing symptoms. Do you use cal/mag along with molasses? *I read that molasses has magnesium. My current two plants were given molasses every feeding and they got hit hard.

I will make sure to use more cal/mag on my next 2 plants. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I know. I already killed the plants pictured and my next two have one foot in the grave. This seems like a problem that has to be prevented, not treated, because once it takes hold it damages the plant too severely. I'm going to probably just start over.
