Strain: HSO Blue Dream Auto
Medium: organic soil
Lighting: 4 Cree CXB3590 COBs in 3500k

As the thread title says, I’m shifting gears and making the switch from photos to autos. I’ve got a list a mile long of reasons why, but the largest reason is that growing started to feel like a job and not a hobby anymore. Multiple tents and lighting schedules and life stages bla bla bla....

Switching to one tent and planning to try and get a two plant rotation going. The first one has been popped and was just placed into some dirt tonight. I dropped the bean Into a paper towel Tuesday night (4/10) and by this morning (4/12) I had a half inch long tap root sticking out. She was just tucked into some organic soil this evening and Hopefully I’ll have myself a healthy little sprout by Saturday morning.

This journal is mostly to help myself keep track of my progress and have something to reference later, but if anyone wants to follow along and offer some advice or even words of encouragement that’s cool. Or laugh at me and tell me my plants suck, that’s cool too. Just stay tuned, I’ll have pics when there’s something above ground. I know how exciting pics of seedlings are, I bet you can’t wait to see them.

Well I’ll be damned. I was not expecting to have so many people show up in my little thread so quickly. And we haven’t even gotten to the exciting pictures of a baby sprout yet! I don’t want to keep you guys waiting so here she is haha

I started the seed in a solo cup despite seeing so many people say to always start the seeds in their final container because I just don’t trust myself with watering a 5 gallon fabric pot properly when it only contains a baby sprout of that size. I did cut out the bottom of the cup and four windows in the sides then placed it inside another cup so when I go to transplant it I can just pop the whole cup in the new pot and not damage the roots in the process. There was a thread I saw somewhere else on this forum explaining how to make instant transplant containers like that and the author had experimented with root restricting plants in those containers for different periods of time to control the size of some larger auto strains. I’ll have to try and find it again and link it here.

I’ll most likely be looking at starting a seed closer to every 30 days but that number might change. I’ve only got space for two plants at a time in my tiny little tent (36”x20” floor space) but I have thought about starting the “next in line” off to the side. I’ve got more lights and tents but my goal is really to simplify the hell out of everything and get this little tent to provide me with an ounce a month average.

Right now I’ve only got that one bean i just popped as it was a freebie on a previous order. I’ve got some short stuff reg autos but they are a mix pack and a total roll of the dice. Not only are they possibly male but you don’t even know what strain you are growing. Those are all going outdoors end of may/early June. Planning to order a ton of seeds on 4/20. I got my eye on the new artistinals from Mephisto and I’m gonna grab a few Dutch passion strains as well most likely from attitude since I’ve ordered from them in the past with no problems.

I've seen many using the 2 cup method, (including myself), but I've never thought about cutting out windows in the side of the cup. I'm going to try this on my next run! :d5: Btw, thanks for sharing! :headbang: :slap:

Here’s a link to the thread I found that showed how it’s done. I first saw it mentioned in the myths section under a thread about transplanting autos and then I found this one in the guides and tutorials section.

The only thing I did differently was I cut out a window in the bottom of the cup as well. I should have taken pictures when I did it. Maybe I’ll keep a steady enough hand at transplant to snap one but I’m sure you get the idea already.
