Alrighty...who is hip to security systems? I bought an 8 camera night vision system and am working out how to hook it up....everything seems pretty straight forward except for a couple of things. I bought a pair of infrared illuminators to extend the range of the cameras night vision out an extra 50 meters. In the listing it says I need a 12V adapter, but it doesnt say how many amps.

Also....instead could I simply use one of these to power the light, hooked up to my camera cord to its power source?

Still am actually although dabble in lots of other stuff too. You get the long answer Skelly as I am a bit anal. The spec on the item you linked says "Power Factor: >0.95W". The term "power factor" is normally associated with AC circuits and motors. I assume they mean power since they are expressing in watts. Making that assumption 0.95W/12V=0.08A or 80mA. This is a link to a similar looking light from the also viewed section of your link. It comes with an adapter that outputs 12VDC 1A. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/JC-4pcs-Hig...itm=132500113767&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

As for the cables, I assume this is power only and the camera data is on a separate cable or wireless. As long size, gender, and polarities match up AND the camera power supply is also 12VDC and it will handle the extra load you should be good.

@bushmaterar15 was kind enough to help me out and found an illuminator on amazon that was the same as the ones i bought off of ebay and they suggest a 2amp power adapter. So that just leaves the splitter question. In an idea world that would be perfect if the splitter would work.

Thanks so much bud!! I find myself overwhelmed with lots of new tech stuff, I am so old school, but learning every day!!

@sanguine - Hey thanks for the tag!! I was told some of this stuff before, but for the life of me I can't remember who told me, and like a jackass i didnt write any of it down.

Nice new toys - I like it. Looks like you have 3 power supplies. One for the DVR and the other 2 each power 4 cameras via a four way splitter. Generally the power supplies are a bit oversized so adding 1 IR light to each of the power supplies may be manageable. I would not try adding both to the same power supply circuit. I read a review on amazon where the reviewer had connected a similar looking light into a 4 camera string with no problems.

Yeah this is all attempt to thwart future robbery of the plants. Thieves nearly got them last year.
Okay great....I will buy the splitters as well...for a couple of bucks for a pair of them why not...no real loss if there is a problem. Okay so one last thing(yeah this is security central now...lol). In addition to the cameras, I am also getting a "go loud" independent security system for when the thieves actually enter the garden.

This is my plan.... 4 of these motion sensors https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Ideal-Secur...069028?hash=item2a7675f7a4:g:jh0AAOSwnHZYQzx6 connected to this https://www.ebay.ca/itm/IDEAL-Secur...638437?hash=item2399598de5:g:Zy4AAOSw5nxaeeQN

Now what I am not sure about this system is if I would need anything else...not sure if the siren and sensors is all I need?
