Indoor Second Auto Grow - AA, RRF, DinaFem Haze, and Pineapple Express

Time for another update. Unfortunately the next round of AA and PE didn't fare any better planting them right into FFOF, so I went back to what worked for me on my last grow. I planted them both in party cups with FFLW soil drenched with Kangaroots. They popped yesterday and look fine, though the PE spent the night stuck in the shell membrane so she's a little ugly right now. I guess I'll tier these into the FFOF at around 1-1.5 weeks like I've done before. The DFH and RRF are cruising along with no signs of distress from the hotter soil. They got a full watering a couple of nights ago and are popping out leaves and branches all over the place.

One odd thing that happened with the DFH is that the main stem grew sideways for a while and then started growing straight up again. It's twice as thick as the RRF stem and it's very strong, so it's not a matter of it falling over. It just took a turn parallel to the soil for about an inch and then started growing straight up again. I tried to stake it up and get it to straighten out, but it wasn't having any of it. So today I noticed the part running along the ground was sprouting root hairs, so I just buried it. As I water and the soil compresses I'll be able to add more on top of it so hopefully it won't get exposed. But the plant looks great and shows no sign of distress, so I'll just chalk it up to a freak occurrence and move on. Here are a few shots.

hey andy will be following this grow bro hopefully that pe will germ for ya cause i know ur gonna love it i sure did still got one fem seed i'm saving.

It popped through the soil yesterday so we're on the way. Thanks again for your writeup on the Barney's PE. I hope I get results half as good as yours!

Looking great so far! I guess AA and PE just don't like to be started in hotter soil, good info. Are you going to use all 4 of your t5 side strips once they get larger? If so, that should be a significant amount of light penetration to almost every inch of every plant. I think your on the right track for short plants packed with dense bud like you want.

Yeah, the T5 strip lights should be here any day now. I'm thinking of building PVC stands for them so I can slide them right up next to the plants. I could hang them, but I don't really want a bunch of lights swinging all over the place every time I'm getting into the tent. Once the four plants outgrow the 2' fixture they're under now, I might just throw two them under my CFL rig instead of buying another overhead T5. As of now my temps are steady at 80-82, so I can't add too much more lighting without heat problems. Fortunately some cooler autumn weather is arriving soon & I'm hopeful that the falling ambient temps will coincide with my need to add lights.

How are the PE and AA seedlings doing? Any pistils on the RRF or DFH yet?

OK, here we go. The DFH and RRF have been vegging like crazy this week. They both showed pistils at day 16, so I've got some eager girls on my hands. The RRF is looking like a short, bushy pheno which is not uncommon. Meanwhile the DFH has shot past it in height and would be even taller if not for the weird sideways growth of the stem. The AA and BPE weren't exactly setting the world on fire this week, so yesterday I went ahead and tiered them into the FFOF. Hopefully they'll take off once they get a taste of the nutes in their new home.

Not much else to report other than I had a pretty significant increase in fungus gnats this week. They were around during my other grow (using soil from the same bags) but by harvest I had maybe 10 on my pest strip. This time there are noticably more and the strip had at least 20 dead ones in the first week after I hung it up. So I got some mosquito dunks and put half of one in a gallon of water and gave everything a good soaking. Hopefully I'll be seeing less and less of those little bastards in the coming days.

I also finally got my T5 strips to use for side lighting. I have not plugged them in yet, so everything you see is happening under a single 96w T5 fixture. I'm still unsure whether or not I'll add CFLs or go all T5, but I'm very impressed with the results I've gotten so far. Here are a few pics of the weekly progress.
