Indoor Second Auto Grow - AA, RRF, DinaFem Haze, and Pineapple Express

Just a quick update since I was down checking on my other grow. New PE and AA have been planted. I gave them some extra time in the paper towel to make sure they had a solid tap root and that the shell was softened up. If these die I might have to switch up the soil, but I've seen plenty of people germ AA right into FFOF without problems. The Haze and RRF are growing along happily and have a nice deep green color. It's a steady 82 degrees with 50% humidity in the tent, so hopefully by the time I need to add more lights I'll have some cooler fall temps to help me out.

Sounds good Andy. I will be watchin. Shame about the PE, but best of luck from here on out.

The ones you have planted, have you been keeping the top where it was planted moist? I just lost some AA beans to this. My ProMix was drying out on top too fast due to high temps and low RH.

Yeah, I've been wetting the soil with a spray bottle at least once per day. Today the soil was dried out several inches deep so they got a regular watering as well. My last grow was a few degrees warmer to start so I'm pretty careful about not letting things get too dry.

Hey Andy! You know I'm subbed and along for the ride! I know this is a little after the fact but I had the same problem as you with a couple of my seeds... Them having a hard time shedding the shell. Also, moving too much when I watered and they got fried by the HPS. Here's two things I do when those problems arise...

1) To help the shell along pull it out from under your lights (very important not to do this under or near the lights) and mist the hell out of it. Put your spray bottle to the strongest mist settings and soak it. Especially the shell. Let it sit out from under the lights for a half hour or so and then it should easily come off by itself or it will get to the point where you can safely remove it. It's worked every time for me. Then once it's dried off completely you can put it back under the lights. It's worked 100% of the time this problem happened.

2) So your taproots don't shift on you and fry or what not I spray the top of the soil down real good so it's soaked. Then I water very slowly and carefully. Once that top layer is soaked pretty good the seed/taproot shouldn't move on you at all. Again, this solved my problems with that and this go around I didn't lose any seedlings.

Your plants are bad ass as always bro! Looking forward to the ride! :pop: :howdy:

Andy!! I just ordered the same tent today. ;) It's a great tent. I had one before, a couple of light leaks and not the sturdiest.. main zipper can be a pain in the ass but other than that it's a very nice tent for the price. It's GREAT for LEDs too if you ever go that route. I have two BlackStars I intend to hang from the two bars and space out when I set it up. You're going to master the T5 dude, especially with the proposed light setup.

I've never considered using Kangaroots or Microbe Brew PRIOR to planting, that's a brilliant idea.. I will be trying that out as I believe the mycos in FFOF are what helps the initial growth be so amazing.

Why only one gallon pots, how many plants do you intend to have going at once? Are you going with no tiered transplant this time? If I use one gallons I typically throw 'em in the Solo 16's for two weeks then tiered transplant to one gallons for a bit bigger plant. I'll be more active in this one as I want to witness the monsters in the making this time. :D

WVR, +rep for the advice on shaking the shell dude! That's great advice and very similar to the technique I use.. Sometimes I just get irritated and pull the sumbitch off if it grows over 2 inches with it on there, this *always* damages the cotyledon leaves and is not the optimal way to go!!

Thanks a lot for checking in, WG. I'm liking the tent so far, and it's a good bang the buck. Yeah, it's not perfect or totally light-tight but it works. Fortunately with autos I don't have to worry about a little light leakage every now and then. As for the Kangaroots, I stole that idea from Joe Dirt. :smoke:

My thoughts on the small pots is that I want to get plants that are basically no bigger than 18"-24" and thick with bud. I've got room in the tent for bigger plants, but with shallower penetration of the T5s and CFLs I want to make sure to keep them smaller so I don't outgrow the lights. I'll be updating the thread tomorrow, but long story short the PE and AA never germed properly so I've restarted them in party cups with FF Light Warrior mix. So for now I'll have two plants growing right in the FFOF and two that will be tiered. No plans for more than 4 right now but I might be tempted to squeeze in a Purple JEM whenever mine show up. :wiz:
