Just googled fusarium. Nasty stuff.Were the stems/contact point a little mushy? Or do they still look good from the inside?
One of the biggest bitches in growing can be stemrot/fusarium... it often starts in the soil/rootlevel, and works its way up to the stems/branches. And it thrives in waterlogged conditions.. I really hope it is not the case here!
"A characteristic symptom of fusarium wilt is the reddish-brown discolouration of the water conducting tissue of the stem and roots, seen when these parts are cut with a sharp knife."
Also this was interesting.
"It's also present in human beings in the form of skin and nail infections (dermatomycosis and onychomycosis)"
Makes you second guess pinching stuff off the plant with your bare hands.
