Maan...I got tied up yesterday in mails..didn't get a chance to touch me own thread.
As fast as I answered them..more piled in...so I thought I better get in early and see what was going on here.

Being honest..I couldn't tell you if the leaf traits Only come in Afghan/Kush doms
coz ALL my girls are Afghan/kush doms....
Guess who show'd their face in the Sour60's? Our old friend the cloven pheno.
and canna are such mongrels that you couldn't discount a bit of Afghan coming through in anything other that a Pure Line.
The way I look at it is...simply...
if you had a plant that was a Pure 5 finger leafed..
and a plant that was Pure 7 finger leafed...
then a 6 leafer pops up..
first of all..it is wrong..canna has and Odd number of leaf fingers..
so it is a plant in transition...
There is a fight for dominace going on in it..gives You Selection points.
Then you have to look at the Number of the leaves that are affected over the whole plant..
count them..
If it is an anomoly that affects say 4 leaves over the whole plant...
then the percentage is very small..so the genetic anomoly is very small
If it is an anomoly that affects say all the major fans..then you have a gentic battle ground.
On the clovens..
if you have a Pure parent with say the fat indica dominant leaves..
with 5 semi webbed fingers
and a pure parent with the long thin sati dominant leaves..with 9 totally seperated fingers..
you get an idea of how many variations that they can throw up.
Leaf variations are girls telling you that they are in transition..and it is up to you
to decide which way to push them..by your selection points.
I particullaly like that one...coz although it is an anomoly..it is a Strong one..
because it is Balanced.
If you folded that leaf completely in half..along the main vein..it is a perfect match.
(oops..Almost perfectly balanced..look at the left hand top leaf..near the mainstem..and you will see a slight imperfection in the saw edge..a piece is stepping out.)
Plants..with Stable genetics will always try to be Perfectly balanced...the more perfect the balance..the more Pure you have the genetics.
The human eye/brain is pre-programed to pick this up.
