Hi folks, copying and pasting this from LED light discussion as was advised to post in live stoners but looked there amd this didn't seem to fit

Completely new to growing and was just getting my first grow underway (all set up, germinated, planted and awaiting sprouts) It feels like i did hours and hours of research on everything before but flat mate was nagging me to stop learning and start doing, now we already have a problem .

I have a 1mx1mx2m tent, starting off learning with 2 plants using autopots. I bought 2 viparspectra 300w lights off amazon and only bothered with amazon reviews. Continuing reading after buying i have found out that theyre terrible (too much blue spectrum, not enough red, inflated par readings etc etc). My first grow ideally id like to cover costs and have some nice stuff to smoke and learn as much as i can.

So my question is what are my options? I cant afford to just keep them, risking terrible results knowing something is wrong before its even started otherwise why bother, but what are my options taking price/quality tradeoff as the main consideration. Im also cool with upgrading further after a couple of grows.
The lights cost me 140 off amazon so should i;
A) bastardize them and retro fit cobs to them (im fairly capable at hands on stuff)but no idea of what theyd be capable of driving etc.
B) try to return them get a refund, write off the 2 seeds i have planted and build cob from scratch (preferably some type of modular set up as when im more skilled id like to fill my 1mx1m)
C) as above but buy the mars equivalent as while i understand they're not great people seem to be able to pull around 1g/watt
D)keep them and add supplemental light during flowering
E)anything else

Im here to learn and really appreciate any response i get so if ive got anything wrong please correct me and try to point me in the right direction if possible. Also apologise if this seems like the ramblings of a mad man but just finished a night shift and trying to stay awake to sort this mess out.

Thanks in advance

Go with what you have. Seriously. You said this is your first grow, and you will have plenty of other stuff to worry about than those lights. I just recently got back in to growing, after a 2.5 year break. (I grew pretty much nonstop for 7 years before that)
Environment is [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG]. Temp, humidity, airflow, nutrient application, canopy management, and a clean grow space.
Those things will keep you plenty busy, and from my experience, the Viparspectra will do fine.
I am 9 weeks in to a grow right now, with a single Vipar 300, and, although I am supplementing it with a 150hps to keep the temps up, it was doing very nicely on it's own.
Keep it at about 30" from seedlings. I am slowly learning that LEDs put out a lot of light we can't see, and too close is a bad thing.
It's a learning curve, coming from years of hi-watt HPS, but I am working on it...
Best of luck, there is a lot of help to be had here!
Regards, Kyle

I think they meant the LiveStoner Gossip thread as that's where alot of us hang out and chat, play tunes and ask questions. We all try to help out. www.autoflower.org/threads/current-live-stoner-gossip-dec-jan-feb-2018.62792/page-1427#post-1674155

As far as the viparspectra light there are a few that use them and have grown some decent meds with it. If I was you I'd use the light now and save up to upgrade later if you think you need to. Hope to see you in LiveStoners if you get stuck with a question or just want to hang out.

Don’t worry about the light.
I use a viparspectra 600 and growing 1 plant that’s about to harvest in 2 or 3 weeks and it’s producing a very decent yield to my opinion .

"Very decent yield". Lol. Understatement of the year. That's a beautiful plant!

So how's the light going mate?

it shows that cheap leds can grow a good harvest. there are better things on the market for sure but it all depends on what you want to spend.

I have 2 Viparspectra 600 Reflectors for my first grow.
Seems to be going fine and dandy at the minute.

I am just charging the battery on my new (second hand) camera and I will post a few pics when it is done.
I currently have the lights 16.5" from the canopies of my plants and they are showing no ill signs.
I would just run with the Vipar for this grow, and then decide afterwards whether or not to change to COBs
